    Abstract: Various embodiments of the present disclosure are directed towards a stacked complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor in which a pixel sensor spans multiple integrated circuit (IC) chips and is devoid of a shallow trench isolation (STI) structure at a photodetector of the pixel sensor. The photodetector and a first transistor form a first portion of the pixel sensor at a first IC chip. A plurality of second transistors forms a second portion of the pixel sensor at a second IC chip. By omitting the STI structure at the photodetector, a doped well surrounding and demarcating the pixel sensor may have a lesser width than it would otherwise have. Hence, the doped well may consume less area of the photodetector. This, in turn, allows enhanced scaling down of the pixel sensor.

    Abstract: A structure model representing a physical object, a fluid model representing a fluid domain, and a set of particles representing a fluid-structure interaction (FSI) interface between the fluid model and the structure model are received in a computer system. Fluid behaviors of the fluid domain are simulated using the fluid model. Respective friction and pressure forces are calculated at the set of particles of the FSI interface. Each particle's friction and pressure forces are calculated from the simulated fluid behaviors and each particle's location in the fluid model. Structural behaviors of the physical object are simulated using the structure model in response to the friction and pressure forces at the set of particles on the FSI interface. The simulated structural behaviors update each particle's location. The updated location is used in the subsequent calculations of the friction and pressure forces.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for numerically simulating structural failure with clusters of bonded discrete elements representing a failed portion of the structure are disclosed. A computerized mesh model representing a structure is received in a computer system. The computerized mesh model containing at least a plurality of finite elements with a subgroup of adaptive elements included therein. A corresponding cluster of discrete elements and connecting bonds for each adaptive element are created based on a set of predefined criteria. The discrete elements and the connecting bonds are initially set to a state of pre-active, and connecting bonds are used for connecting discrete elements to one another within each cluster. Numerically-calculated structural behaviors are obtained by conducting a time-marching simulation for a predetermined duration in a plurality of solution cycles using the computerized mesh model with a scheme for processing the adaptive elements and corresponding clusters of discrete elements.

    Abstract: A bond model in DEM is disclosed. The model includes receiving initial location, volume, mass density, bulk shear moduli of discrete particles representing physical domain made of heterogeneous material; assigning an influence range to each discrete particle; establishing a plurality of bonds for connecting the discrete particles, each of the bonds is divided into first and second sub-bonds with the first sub-bond connecting to a first discrete particle and the second sub-bond connecting to a second discrete particle, the said first and second discrete particles are located within the influence range. Each discrete particle is connected to one or more sub-bonds; dividing the volume of each discrete particle into one or more sub-bonds so that one or more sub-bonds are assigned with properties that include length and cross-section area; and obtaining numerically simulated physical phenomena within the physical domain by conducting a time-marching simulation of the bonds with assigned properties.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for numerically simulating inflation of an airbag configured with more than one connected flexible-boundary volumes (i.e., primary and secondary pouches) are disclosed. A finite element analysis model of such airbag is defined in the airbag's folded configuration. Numerical simulation of inflating the primary pouch is based on corpuscular particle theory by interacting simulated corpuscular or gas particles with one another and with the shell elements representing the primary pouch. The simulated corpuscular particles are created by flow characteristics generated by an explosive blast. Numerical simulation of inflating the secondary pouch is based on control volume theory by converting kinetic energy of those of the simulated corpuscular particles having flowed through the interconnected opening from the primary to the secondary pouch to a uniform pressure. The uniform pressure is then applied onto the shell elements representing the secondary pouch.

    Abstract: A controller for filtering sub-channels of DVB is provided, including a media access control (MAC) unit, at least a data compression unit and at least a physical interface circuit. The MAC unit includes a plurality of registers. The MAC unit is connected to the DVB packets through a bus, and the registers provide storage for the program identification of at least one DVB sub-channel packet so that the MAC unit can determine whether to discard or output the DVB packet based on the program identification. The data compression unit is connected to MAC unit for being controlled to determine whether the packet should be compressed before output. The physical interface circuit is connected to the MAC unit and the data compression unit for outputting the compressed or uncompressed packets.
