Publication number: 20240204239Abstract: The present document describes a low-emission cylindrical-winding battery design. The battery design is a rolled and stacked battery, with two or more winding rolls of cathode and anode layers separated by insulation layers, the winding rolls also being separated by a distance with the distance, in some embodiments, filled with a dielectric material. A first winding roll of first stacked anode and cathode layers and a second winding roll of second stacked anode and cathode layers are wound in a direction around a central axis of the battery. The first winding roll of first stacked anode and cathode layers follows a first stacking order with the anode and cathode layers alternating. The second winding roll of second stacked anode and cathode layers follows a second stacking order with the anode and cathode layers alternating opposite to the first stacking order. The alternating stacking orders cause the battery to produce a reduced H-field when compared with a battery having non-alternating stacking orders.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2024Publication date: June 20, 2024Applicant: Google LLCInventors: Jianmin Zhang, Mingfeng Xue, Chi Kin Benjamin Leung, Ramesh C. Patent number: 11984756Abstract: A first electronic device, electronically coupled to a second device for supplying a charge to the second electronic device, tracks the voltage requirements of the second device and dynamically adjusts its output voltage upwards or downwards to match such requirements. The second electronic device may provide feedback to the first electronic device through a feedback loop. The feedback may include an indication of the voltage requirements and/or instructions for adjusting the voltage output of the first electronic device. The second device may be, for example, a wearable audio device, while the first device is a case for the wearable audio device.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2021Date of Patent: May 14, 2024Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Yao Ding, Trevor Hermosillo, Maksim Shmukler, Chi Kin Benjamin Leung

Publication number: 20230232144Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to a conductive layer having one or more protrusions configured to attract an electrostatic discharge (“ESD”) arc. The device may be any device, such as a smartphone, tablet, earbuds, etc. The device may include a microphone and, therefore, may include a microphone opening. The conductive layer may include a conductive opening axially aligned with the microphone opening and one or more protrusions extending radially inwards towards the center of the conductive opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2022Publication date: July 20, 2023Inventors: Ketan Shringarpure, Warwick Ka Kui Wong, Chi Kin Benjamin Leung, Yao Ding, Jingyu Huang, Jae Lee

Patent number: 11693521Abstract: This document describes techniques and devices for detecting twist input with an interactive cord. An interactive cord may be constructed with one or more conductive yarns wrapped around a cable in a first direction (e.g., clockwise), and one or more conductive yarns wrapped around the cable in a second direction that is opposite the first direction (e.g., counter-clockwise). A controller measures one or more capacitance values associated with the conductive yarns. In response to detecting a change in the one or more capacitance values, the controller determines that the change in the capacitance values corresponds to twist input caused by the user twisting the interactive cord. Then, the controller initiates one or more functions based on the twist input, such as by controlling audio to a headset by increasing or decreasing the volume, scrolling through menu items, and so forth.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2022Date of Patent: July 4, 2023Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Thad Eugene Starner, Karissa A. Sawyer, Greg Ellis Priest-Dorman, Jonathan Moeller, Nidhi Rathi, Jianyi Liu, Yao Ding, Chi Kin Benjamin Leung

Patent number: 11690109Abstract: The technology relates to establishing wireless communication links, or connections, between a first audio accessory device, a second audio accessory device, and a client computing device. After receiving signals from the client computing device to initiate audio output, the first audio accessory device and the second audio accessory device may both perform a series of steps in parallel to establish connections with the client computing device and with each other. The series of steps may include relaying one or more acknowledgement (ACK) signals between the audio accessory devices in order to confirm proper receipt of the signals from the client computing device at both audio accessory devices. Alternatively, the series of steps may include transmitting a jamming signal from one of the audio accessory devices in order to prevent an ACK signal from the other audio accessory device from reaching the client computing device and initiating audio output.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2021Date of Patent: June 27, 2023Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Hongyang Deng, Shijing Xian, Guang Xie, Chi Kin Benjamin Leung

Patent number: 11644317Abstract: The technology provides for a pair of earbuds. For instance, a first earbud may include a first antenna, and a second earbud may include a second antenna. The pair of earbuds may further include one or more processors configured to receive, from the first antenna, a first signal from a beacon, and receive, from the second antenna, a second signal from the beacon. Based on the first signal and the second signal, the one or more processors may determine at least one signal strength. The one or more processors may determine a position of the user relative to the beacon based on the at least one signal strength.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2021Date of Patent: May 9, 2023Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Jiang Zhu, Chi Kin Benjamin Leung

Patent number: 11522273Abstract: An antenna is provided for a wearable personal computing device, such as an earbud. The antenna integrates with other components of the wearable device, such as an input control. For example, the antenna may at least partially surround a portion of a touchpad input at a surface of the device that is exposed when the device is worn. In one example, the antenna shares a ground plane with the touchpad. In another example, the antenna includes two nested traces, wherein a first trace is connected to ground and a second trace is connected to an antenna feed.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2018Date of Patent: December 6, 2022Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Wenjing Su, Jiang Zhu, Maura Aranguren, Eric Dayringer, Troy Edwards, Trevor Hermosillo, Matthew Egan, Chi Kin Benjamin Leung, Yao Ding

Patent number: 11503397Abstract: A case (100) is provided for housing and charging one or more wireless devices (180), such as wireless earbuds. The case (100) includes capacitive sensing circuitry (120) for detecting whether the wireless devices (180) are positioned inside the case (100) based on a capacitance of the wireless devices (180). The case (100) also includes a transceiver (150) for transmitting data to and receiving data from the wireless devices (180). When the wireless devices (180) are positioned inside the case (100), an electrical component (110) inside the case operatively connects the capacitive sensing circuitry (120) and the transceiver (150) of the case (100) to the wireless devices (180). The case (100) further includes one or more processors (140) for controlling the capacitive sensing circuitry (120), the transceiver (150), and the electrical component (110).Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2018Date of Patent: November 15, 2022Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Yao Ding, Kenneth Albanowski, Maksim Shmukler, Trevor Hermosillo, Chi Kin Benjamin Leung
