  • Patent number: 6711107
Abstract: The system and method is used for CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) control format recording, whereas the existing disk data is recorded under CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) control format recording. When the PUH receives a laser driver signal, it generates a feed signal and a wobble signal. The feed signal is received by the automatic power control; thereafter the automatic power control generates a first control signal used for causing the laser driver to adjust the laser driver signal. After the ATIP decoder receives the wobble signal, the ATIP decoder generates and outputs ATIP decoded data to the CLV value detector. The CLV value detector receives ATIP decoded data and generates a CLV decoded data to the laser power control. The laser power control receives the CLV decoded data and generates a second control signal used for causing the automatic power control to adjust the first control signal.

  • Publication number: 20030167435
Abstract: An encoding method for an optical recorder provides an optical recorder with an encoder for encoding data received from a computer. Additionally, the optical recorder includes a processor for controlling operations of the encoder. The encoding method includes receiving data of a next mode, which is different from a current mode, from the computer even when the encoder is still encoding data of the current mode.

  • Publication number: 20030156513
Abstract: An optimal power calibration (OPC) method calibrates writing power for an optical disc. The optical disc includes a power calibration area, with a plurality of counting units and test blocks. The OPC method includes generating a plurality of first power levels by using an indicated power, selecting a plurality of second power levels from the first power levels, recording test data onto test blocks with the second power levels, reading the test blocks, and generating data signals and first beta values. The method further includes generating estimated optimal power by a calculating algorithm, generating a plurality of third power levels by using the estimated optimal power, recording test data onto test blocks with the third power levels, reading the test blocks, and generating data signals and second beta values. Optimal power is calculated by using the estimated optimal power, the first beta values, and the second beta values.

  • Publication number: 20020150003
Abstract: A multimode filter in an optical storage device is used for filtering an error signal and outputting a frequency signal. The multimode filter comprises a CLV and CAV mode filter and a switch. The CLV mode filter is used for filtering the error signal and extracting a narrow bandwidth signal, whereas the CAV mode filter is used for filtering the error signal and extracting a wide bandwidth signal. The switch is used for selecting either the CLV mode filter or the CAV mode filter according to the recording mode of the optical storage device.

  • Patent number: 6044737
Abstract: A new type of stator design and arc shaping method that is used in a diametrically wound and diametrical air gap type of brushless motor. After arc shaping, the stator of this brushless motor has an external profile composed of a central arc and two modified arcs located on each side of the central arc. The central arc subtends an angle twice that of angle A and the modified arcs each has a radius r, both angle A and r are given by the following formulae: ##EQU1## Through arc shaping the stator, the cogging torque is lowered while a certain standard value for the torque constant is still maintained. Thus, the overall efficiency of the brushless motor is raised.
