    Abstract: A portable electronic device includes a first housing, a second housing detachably latched to the first housing through a latching tab, and a releasing mechanism. The releasing mechanism includes a button, an elastic member, and a shaft. The button surrounds the shaft and is rotatably assembled to the first housing by the shaft. The elastic member is coiled around the shaft and elastically resists the button to apply an elastic force to enable the button resisting the first housing. When the button rotates about the shaft under a pressure overcoming the elastic force, the latching tab is pushed to release the latching tab and the second housing.

    Abstract: Methods for determining the likelihood of colorectal cancer (CRC) recurrence in a subject that involve measuring the expression level of two or more micro ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) in a biological sample comprising CRC tumor cells from said subject and using the normalized, measured expression levels to determine the likelihood of colorectal cancer recurrence for said subject. In the methods, the normalized expression levels of specific miRNAs are weighted by their contribution to CRC recurrence to calculate the likelihood of CRC recurrence. Kits for measuring the expression level of specific miRNAs that can be used in determining the likelihood of CRC recurrence are also provided.

    Abstract: An edge-coupled photodetector, especially a compound semiconductor edge-coupled photodetectors, has a light funnel integrated right in front of the coupling aperture for enhancing the optical coupling efficiency. The light funnel is formed utilizing either a wet etched, crystallographically defined semiconductor slope or a dry etched, resist-profile-defined semiconductor slope covered by the planarized dielectrics. The funnel internals can be partially or fully metallized for total mirror reflection. The lightwave entering the funnel and propagating along the optical axis converges through mirror reflection or total internal reflection. Through such an invention, the edge-coupled photodetector can have both high operation speed and high quantum efficiency with enlarged alignment tolerance.

    Abstract: A self-aligned fabrication method utilizes dielectric planarization process for fabricating ridge waveguide semiconductor lasers. The dielectric planarization process starts with depositing a thick dielectric film onto the ridge-structured semiconductor wafer surface, and then the resulting corrugated dielectric surface is polished into a flat surface in a self-terminated manner. This dielectric flat surface is able to uniformly expose its semiconductor ridge tops by an overall etch-back process.
