  • Publication number: 20130148075
Abstract: A liquid crystal lens includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a first electrode layer, a second electrode layer and a liquid crystal layer. The second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate. The first electrode layer is disposed on the second substrate and has a blank region which is configured with no electrode. The second electrode layer is disposed on a surface of the first substrate which faces to the second substrate. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and has a plurality of monomers and liquid crystal molecules. The monomers and the liquid crystal molecules form a macromolecule polymer network structure along the projection direction of the blank region, so that the liquid crystal lens has two focal lengths. A manufacturing method of the liquid crystal lens is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6977705
Abstract: Structure for reducing the diffraction effect in periodic electrode arrangements and liquid crystal device including the same. The invention relates to a structure for reducing the diffraction effect in periodic electrode arrangements. The structure is used in a reflective or semi-transparent liquid crystal display with lateral electric fields. The light collecting efficiency is improved by using multiple (two or more) dielectric layers with different refractive index as passivation layers of transparent electrodes, and by adjusting thickness of each dielectric layer to obtain the same optical path between the passivation layers and the transparent electrodes when incident light is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6912038
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for manufacturing liquid crystal display (LCD) device by utilizing photopolymer. A first photopolymer layer is coated on the support substrate and the substrate having a buffer layer is treated by photopolymerization. A substrate is treated by processes for forming an electrode layer, an alignment layer and projections as required by general LCD manufacturing. A second photopolymer layer is coated on the substrate having a plurality electrode patterns, an alignment layer and projections. Mask exposure is applied to the substrate and the photopolymer forms a polymer wall. Alternatively molding can be applied to the substrate along with linear ultra violet exposure. The photopolymer layer is hardened by such process and forms a polymer wall with alignment. The cavities in the polymer wall are filled with mixture of liquid crystal and small amount of photopolymer.

  • Publication number: 20050045478
Abstract: a manufacturing method for an electrophoretic display applying optical polymer material is provided. The main characteristic is that the charged pigment particles are confined with optical polymer material so as to achieve electrophoretic display. In the manufacturing process, a first layer of optical polymer material is coated on an auxiliary substrate having a buffer layer for performing an optical polymerization manufacturing process. After the polymerization, on the first layer of the optical polymer material layer, the manufacturing process required by the electrophoretic display is further performed. After a second layer of optical polymer material is coated on a substrate required by the electrophoretic display having a plurality of electrode patterns, by using a mask exposure, the optical polymer material is solidified to form a polymer wall, or a molding method is applied with ultraviolet irradiation for solidifying the optical polymer material so as to form the polymer wall.

  • Patent number: 6829028
Abstract: A wide-viewing angle display device serves as a multi-domain vertical alignment (MVA) mode liquid crystal display (LCD) device or an in-plane switching (IPS) mode liquid crystal display (LCD) device. A plurality of protrusions is formed on the inner surface of the glass substrate, and an electrode array is formed on the tops of the protrusions. Thus, the electrodes are suspended in the liquid crystal cell gap, and a transverse electrical field is generated by the electrodes to drive the liquid crystal molecules.

  • Publication number: 20040228981
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for manufacturing an electrophoretic display. The major feature is wrapping the colored and charged particles with photo polymeric material so as to enable an electrophoretic display. The manufacturing process includes steps as proceeding to a polymerization manufacturing process where an assist substrate having a buffer layer is coated with a first layer of photo polymeric material. The first layer of photo polymeric material then undergoes required steps such as conductive layer electrode fabricating. The second layer of photo polymeric material mixture is coated on a substrate having a plurality of electrode patterns. The assist substrate is aligned with the substrate. Then a mask exposure polymerization manufacturing process is performed so as to combining the assist substrate and the substrate and separate the charged particles solution from the polymeric material. The assist substrate is removed from the substrate and the manufacturing process is completed.
