  • Publication number: 20130186074
Abstract: The present invention provides an internal combustion engine includes: a turbocharger arranged in exhaust passage; EGR passage branching off from the exhaust passage downstream of a turbine of the turbocharger and connected to intake passage; a burner device arranged in the exhaust passage between the turbine and the portion where the EGR passage branches off to increase exhaust temperature; a bypass passage branching off from the exhaust passage between the turbine and the burner device and connected to the EGR passage; and a bypass valve to adjust flow rate of exhaust gas passing through bypass passage. When flow rate of the exhaust gas is increased, the bypass valve is open, and part of the exhaust gas is guided to the bypass passage. The flow rate of the exhaust gas to be supplied to the burner device is reduced, and the ignition performance of the burner device is ensured.

  • Publication number: 20130061585
Abstract: An internal combustion engine according to the present invention includes an exhaust treatment apparatus provided in an exhaust passage, and a burner apparatus provided upstream of the exhaust treatment apparatus to increase an exhaust temperature. The burner apparatus includes at least a fuel addition valve that allows fuel to be added into exhaust and ignition means for igniting the fuel added via the fuel addition valve. The fuel addition valve is driven open when fuel is added via the fuel addition valve. The amount of fuel added via the fuel addition valve per unit time is increased beyond a predetermined reference amount when the detected amount of intake air exceeds a predetermined threshold value. The probability of successful ignition by the ignition apparatus is increased, and a flame is prevented from being blown out. Thus, the burner apparatus can demonstrate sufficient ignition performance and sufficient combustion performance.

  • Publication number: 20130036725
Abstract: An internal combustion engine according to the present invention includes an exhaust treatment apparatus provided in an exhaust passage, and a burner apparatus provided upstream of the exhaust treatment apparatus to raise exhaust temperature. A valve driving state of at least one of an intake valve and an exhaust valve is controlled so as to reduce a flow rate of exhaust gas passing through the burner apparatus when the flow rate of the exhaust gas is equal to or larger than a predetermined value. Possible flame blow-out in the burner apparatus can be prevented or suppressed to ensure sufficient ignition performance.

  • Publication number: 20130004374
Abstract: An exhaust gas purification system for an internal combustion engine, the system being provided with: an exhaust gas purification device (13) that is provided in an exhaust gas passage (12) of the internal combustion engine (1); a preceding stage catalyst (14) that is provided in the exhaust gas passage (12) at an upstream side of the exhaust gas purification device (13) and passed through by a part of exhaust gas that flows through the exhaust gas passage (12); a bypass passage (31) that directly introduces exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine (1) into the exhaust gas passage (12) at a downstream side of the preceding stage catalyst (14); and a bypass valve (34) that opens/closes the bypass passage (31).

  • Publication number: 20120073274
Abstract: Internal combustion engine according to the invention comprises an exhaust treatment apparatus provided in an exhaust passage, a burner apparatus provided upstream of the exhaust treatment apparatus for increasing exhaust temperature, and a variable mechanism for varying valve timing of an exhaust valve. The variable mechanism is controlled in such a manner that, when a flow amount of exhaust gas passing through the burner apparatus is equal to or more than a predetermined value, the exhaust valve opens in the middle of piston descending during an expansion stroke. When the exhaust valve is opened at this timing, high-temperature exhaust or combustion gas existing in combustion chamber at this time is sent to the burner apparatus, making it possible to increase atmosphere gas temperature of the burner apparatus. Therefore, even when flow amount of exhaust gas is increased to the predetermined value or more, sufficient ignition performance can be ensured.

  • Patent number: 6938419
Abstract: A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine which is mounted in a vehicle and has a supercharger that is located along an intake passage of the internal combustion engine and driven by a motor, includes a controller which drives the motor to perform supercharging during warm-up of the internal combustion engine, and supercharges a plurality of times intake air to be supplied to the internal combustion engine. Accordingly, the intake air is supercharged a plurality of times during warm-up of the internal combustion engine, so the temperature of the intake air is raised sufficiently to warm up the engine, thus enabling the engine to be warmed up effectively.
