  • Patent number: 8120739
Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) device includes first and second substrates, a liquid crystal (LC) layer sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate, the first substrate defining an array of pixel areas, each of the pixel areas including a pixel electrode and a common electrode, and an insulator film formed on the first substrate and on the pixel electrode, the insulator film including a contact hole and the pixel electrode being exposed through the contact hole such that a voltage supplied to the pixel electrode generates a radial electric field around the contact hole and between the pixel electrode and the common electrode.

  • Publication number: 20080123036
Abstract: A manufacturing method of the present invention is applied to manufacture of a liquid crystal display device comprising an array board, an opposing board opposing the array board, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the pair of boards. The method includes a step of performing alignment processing on an alignment film formed on the surface of at least one of the pair of boards in contact with the liquid crystal. The alignment processing is performed by irradiating energy having an anisotropy such as ion beams to the alignment film in a plurality of steps while the energy intensity is set to be lowest in the final irradiation step.

  • Publication number: 20080043189
Abstract: A LCD panel includes a LC layer, an active-matrix substrate including an electrode layer for applying a lateral electric field to the LC layer, and a counter substrate opposing the active-matrix substrate with an intervention of the LC layer 11. The active-matrix substrate includes a first alignment film formed in the surface which touches the LC layer 11 by the rubbing technique is formed, and second alignment film 35 formed in the surface which touches the LC layer 11 by the particle beam glaring technique is formed on the counter substrate 13.

  • Publication number: 20080024688
Abstract: An IPS LCD device includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode in each of an array of pixels. The pixel electrode and common electrode is of a comb-shape structure, wherein branch electrodes of the pixel electrode oppose respective branch electrodes of the common electrode. One of the pixel electrode and the common electrode includes control electrodes generating a radial electric field between the control electrodes and the other of the pixel electrode and common electrode.

  • Patent number: 7304706
Abstract: In an IPS liquid crystal display device, a reduction in optical leakage from the outer peripheral portion of an electrode pattern in flexed configuration and an improvement in the contrast of display on a screen are intended. The IPS liquid crystal display device has a plurality of signal lines and scan lines arranged as a matrix on a TFT substrate, TFT switching elements, and comb-like pixel electrodes connected to the TFT switching elements. In a pixel region, a comb-like common electrode is formed in interdigitated relation with the pixel electrodes. The pixel electrodes, the common electrode, and the signal lines are formed in mutually parallel and flexed configuration at a given angle relative to an optical axis. The outer edge of each pixel electrode, the common electrode, and the signal lines is added with fine stairwise fine stepped portions composed of the same material as composing the electrodes and lines.

  • Patent number: 7242450
Abstract: The circumferential dimension of the rubbing cloth 1 is set to one half or below of the circumferential dimension of the rotational roll 2a, the excentric core irregularities produced by the seam of the rubbing roll 2 are made visually unrecognizable, and the circumferential dimension of the rubbing cloth 1 is reduced, thus reducing the rubbing density and preventing the scraping-off of the orientation film.
