  • Patent number: 6419859
Abstract: A mold assembly for forming an ophthalmic lens, or a lens blank from which one ophthalmic lens is produced by effecting a cutting operation on at least one of a front surface and a back surface of the lens blank, the mold assembly consisting of a first mold having a molding surface and a second mold having a molding surface, which first and second molds are assembled together so as to define therebetween a mold cavity having a profile corresponding to that of the ophthalmic lens or the lens blank, the mold cavity being filled with a polymeric material which is polymerized to form the ophthalmic lens or the lens blank, wherein at least one of the first and second molds is a layered mold which is constituted by a composite sheet comprising a metal sheet layer and at least one resin layer which are laminated on each other, the at least one resin layer of the composite sheet providing the molding surface of the layered mold which partially defines the mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 5737057
Abstract: A lens material 66 is caused to overlap upon a curved surface of a support body 90 through an adhesive with the lens material 66 supported by a rotary spindle 18 of a first machining device 14. Then, such lens material 66 is bonded to the support body 90 by aligning the lens material 66 with the support body 90 while rotating the lens material 66 and the support body 90 relative to each other by rotating the rotary spindle 18 with the support body 90 being allowed to move in directions orthogonal to a rotary shaft of the rotary spindle 18.

  • Patent number: 5307740
Abstract: A marking apparatus for providing desired marks such as characters, symbols, graphics, etc. on surfaces of contact lenses in a standardized manner. The marking apparatus includes a main shaft rotatable about an axis and a screen support mounted on the main shaft so as to be rotated therewith. The screen support has a plurality of marking holes provided at equal intervals around a circumference thereof and a screen is stretched across the support. The screen includes patterns associated with the desired mark which are provided in correspondence with the marking holes. A bracket is mounted on the main shaft under the screen support so as to be rotated with the main shaft. A plurality of supporters are supported by the bracket and function to individually support lens beds on which the lenses are respectively disposed.
