    Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus which can reduce the possibility of collision with other frames when transmitting a broadcast/multicast frame in a wireless local area network (LAN) following a Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) rule, thereby ensuring reliable transmission. The wireless communication method for sending or receiving a predetermined frame through contention between an access point and one or more stations according to DCF is characterized in that the access point uses the shortest of interframe space (IFS) intervals for access to a wireless medium. Therefore, when wireless LAN STAs operate in a DCF mode, the possibility of collision during broadcast or multicast frame transmission can be reduced while adopting conventional CSMA/CA mechanism, thereby improving reliability in successful frame transmission.

In the WLAN, information that allows a plurality of hearing legacy stations and a plurality of hearing HT stations which receive a data frame having an HT format transmitted by a transmitting HT station to fairly contend for use of a medium is transmitted as a frame having a format that can be interpreted by all the legacy HT stations. Therefore, the legacy stations can contend for a medium under the same conditions as the HT stations.

The data transmission method for transmitting data from an access point on a wireless LAN includes allocating a sub-contention free period in which 802.11 based legacy stations and high throughput (HT) stations with multiple antennas obtain a channel use right through polling, and an HT contention period in which the HT stations can obtain a channel use right through contention. According to the method and devices, when there are no objects of polling in a contention free period, the period, in which the HT stations can obtain the channel use right though contention, is made to begin earlier such that without wasting the channel use period, the channel can be used flexibly.

    Abstract: A link adaption method for multi input multi output (MIMO) system having a multi-antenna structure and a communicating method of MIMO stations in a basic service set (BSS), which constitutes a wireless communication network. The communicating method includes receiving from a predetermined MIMO station, the number of MIMO antennas and transmission rates supported by the respective MIMO stations. It further includes, storing one or more channel estimations indicators obtained while receiving various framed form the predetermined MIMO station for each MIMO antenna and for each transmission rate supported by the MIMO antenna, determining the threshold levels of the channel estimation for each MIMO antenna, and comparing the threshold levels with an average of channels estimation indicators for each MIMO antenna. The transmission rate is determined based on the comparison result and the data is then transmitted to the predetermined MIMO station ad the determined transmission rate.
