  • Publication number: 20120295806
Abstract: This invention provides methods, systems, and compositions for detecting low abundance microbial DNA in a sample by broad-range PCR. Methods of the present invention are based on a novel strategy that tags the 5?-end of the target DNA templates with a non-bacterial tagging sequence so as to set the templates apart from the endogenous contaminants present in the PCR reagents. There is also provided fusion probes for tagging the templates and primer sets to amplify the tagged templates. Systems and kits for facilitating and automating methods of the present invention are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7482157
Abstract: Cholesterol inhibitor produced by Monascus, monacolin k, is a secondary metabolite of polyketides. The invention provides probes specific to monacolin k biosynthesis gene cluster. BAC clones having putative monacolin k gene cluster were screened from BAC (bacterial artificial chromosome) library, and sequencing and annotation were performed on these clones. The results show that 2 polyketide synthase (PKS) genes and 7 regulatory genes related to monacolin k synthesis were obtained. Full-length cDNAs of these genes were then obtained by RT-PCR and cloned to expression vectors for the expression of these genes.

  • Publication number: 20040219657
Abstract: A system and process of bio-treatment for enhancing the efficiency of treating waste gas is disclosed. This technology relates to an application of a dust/grease filtering device, a two-way directionally gas inlet system, a bioaerosol removal device, and a cell immobilization technology, to a conventional bioreactor for treating waste gas. The dust/grease filtering device is formed by fillers which form pores being less than 100 mesh, in order to efficiently remove the majority of dust/grease existing in the waste gas, and reduce the pressure drop of the reactor. The two-way directionally gas inlet system can control the direction of the gas flowing into the bioreactor, in order to efficiently control the pressure drop, and the variation of pH value and the humidity in the reactor.
