  • Patent number: 9340921
Abstract: A process for manufacturing robust, flexible sheet-like material, includes the steps of a) applying a waxy composition to the web to form a waxed web; b) leading the waxed web via at least one roller to a chiller; c) cooling the waxed web; and d) leading the waxed web to a collection station for collecting the waxed web for further processing. The waxy composition comprises about 10-60 wt-% of a waxy compound and about 90-40 wt-% of a diluent. The waxy compound is selected from the group consisting of A) monoesters of a polyhydric aliphatic alcohol and a fatty acid; B) diesters of a polyhydric aliphatic alcohol and a fatty acid; and C) mixtures of said monoesters and diesters. The coating forms a stable liquid mixture at a temperature between about 35° C. and about 100° C., has a liquefaction temperature of at least about 30° C., and has a contact angle with a flat surface of the substrate of less than about 35° when measured at a temperature of 60° C.

  • Patent number: 8425480
Abstract: The application of active ingredients, exemplified by GML, to absorbent fibers, such as rayon fibers, used in tampon manufacture at very low levels has been found to maintain efficacy in the inhibition of the production of toxic shock syndrome toxin one (TSST-1) produced by S. aureus without overtly killing the microorganism to achieve the desired reduction while avoiding undesired test results that suggest the presence of “impurities” in some jurisdictions.

  • Patent number: 5997986
Abstract: Apertured plastic films comprise a stretchable thermoplastic polymeric material having a plurality of micro-holes defined by a network of fiber-like elements. The films are produced by directing fluids, especially water, against the upper surface of a starting film in the form of columnar streams in a contact zone, while the film is supported on a backing element. The films of the invention are useful as covering materials for absorbent products such as diapers, wound dressings and sanitary napkins.

  • Patent number: 5030229
Abstract: This invention provides a disposable urinary pad comprising a liquid-impermeable backing, an absorbent core and a liquid permeable facing adhered to the shell so as to entrap the absorbent core therebetween. The absorbent core comprises a web of absorbent fibers and superabsorbent material and has a liquid-permeable transfer layer adjacent to one surface. The absorbent core is pleated, as in an M-configuration, to form therein a center lengthwise channel. The transfer layer, after pleating of the absorbent core, extends down the sides of the core so as to provide a liquid path to the bottom of the core.

  • Patent number: 4657804
Abstract: A water-impervious, smooth-surfaced, gas-permeable, bacterial barrier, repellent treated, laminated material is described. A preferred embodiment comprises a ply of hydrophobic microfine fibers fuse bonded to a layer of conjugate fibers having a low melting sheath and a high melting core. The ply of hydrophobic microfine fibers is low melting. The sheaths of the conjugate fibers have been fuse bonded to the hydrophobic microfine fibers at a temperature below the melt temperature of the cores of the conjugate fibers so that the cores retain their initial fiber-like integrity. The laminated material is preferably impregnated with both a repellent binder and a repellent finish to secure good repellency, lamination and peelability.
