Abstract: Techniques are provided for integrating rich media into a scalable, multi-user, web-based calendar system having multiple interconnected web-based interfaces. Rich media refers to digital media that exhibit either, or a combination, of dynamic or interactive properties, including video content, audio content, graphical content, hyperlinks, or browser-based applications to such content, that are associated with a particular calendar event. Rich media events are created and stored in a central repository, and are accessible for adding to users' own calendar events. Rich media calendar events include display templates that define display characteristics for the rich media calendar event. Display templates also provide rich media applications for rendering and displaying the rich media content in the event. Delivery schedules are employed to automatically control the display of rich media calendar events.

Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methods for locating one or more dates. Specific embodiments include a dates locator that is operable to analyze a date request in the form of natural language words or phrases and determine that such words or phrases correspond to a specific date or range of dates. In one natural language example, a date request may be in the form of a specified holiday or specified period of time before and/or after such specified holiday (e.g., Thanksgiving week) and the corresponding date or range of dates are retrieved by the dates locator. That is, dates locator embodiments receive a date request that uses date contextual information as input to thereby retrieve a specific date or range of dates. The retrieved date or range of dates may then be displayed based in the date request's contextual information. Additionally, a dates locator may include a learning mechanism to learn new associations between particular contextual information and a specific date or range of dates.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for providing a plurality of graphical elements, independent of any calendar location, associated with a distinct set of predefined data describing at least one characteristic of a calendar event comprising a plurality of characteristics. The predefined data may be user-specified. The graphical element is activated, such as by clicking or dragging, and in response to the activation, a proposed calendar event is generated that has a first set of one or more calendar event characteristics based on the predefined data associated with the graphical element. User input is received defining a second set of one or more calendar event characteristics that are not associated with the graphical element, and the proposed calendar event is saved in association with a particular calendar location.
