    Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for environment sensing by an electronic device, such as a user equipment (UE) or base station. In an aspect, the electronic device uses a radio frequency (RF) signal configured to transmit information on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols in accordance with a wireless communication standard, such as Fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR), for environment sensing. The electronic device configures one or more transmission parameters for the RF signal based on one or more factors related to a resolution to be provided by the RF signal, a type of application for which the environment sensing RF signal is being transmitted, capabilities of the UE, and the like. The electronic device then transmits the environment sensing RF signal, over an uplink, downlink, or sidelink, as appropriate to the type of electronic device, in accordance with the one or more transmission parameters.

A user equipment (UE) and a base station operating in unlicensed spectrum may temporarily increase a paging opportunity window (POW) size, or reduce a time between POWs, in order to meet performance metrics or account for time periods when a base station is unable to win access to the wireless medium during a POW. In some cases, a UE may identify a failed listen-before-talk procedure and autonomously update the POW size. In other examples, a base station may initiate a change in POW size or increase a number of paging opportunities in order to meet achieve one or more key performance indicators (KPIs). After a predetermined period, or after a triggering condition is no longer present, the UE and the base station may reset the POW size or the number of paging opportunities to a nominal amount to conserve power.

A base station may configure bursts of synchronization signal (SS) blocks for discovery reference signal (DRS) transmission. The base station may transmit an SS block set in an SS burst according to a beam sweep pattern, which may be repeated for a subsequent SS block set. The base station may configure a number of SS block sets in each SS burst and transmit each SS block in an SS block set using a different beam. Each SS burst may be transmitted according to a different beam sweep pattern and the base station may repeat transmission of SS bursts according to a DRS repetition periodicity. A user equipment (UE) may sweep through antenna sub-arrays during reception of an SS burst to determine a suitable sub-array for communication.
