  • Patent number: 7901482
Abstract: Molten steel is refined in an electric furnace by using iron scrap as a main iron source, and is tapped into a separate refining vessel. Thereafter, metallic-Al containing material and CaO are added onto a bath surface of the molten steel, and an oxygen containing gas is supplied to the molten steel. Thereby, a nitrogen-removal reaction utilizing an AlN formation reaction is caused to proceed. Consequently, even in the case of molten steel having a low carbon content, a low-nitrogen steel can be refined and produced at low costs.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 6, 2007
Date of Patent: March 8, 2011
    Assignee: JFE Steel Corporation

  • Patent number: 7004992
Abstract: The high-Cr-containing metal according to the present invention is a chromium-containing metal manufactured in an arc melting furnace, and contains at least 85% Cr, up to 0.005% Al, up to 0.1% Si, and up to 0.002% S. The manufacturing method of this high-Cr-containing metal comprises the steps of reducing chromium oxides heated and melted in the arc melting furnace with Si, obtaining a molten metal containing at least 85% Cr, then, discharging slag generated in this Si reduction from the arc melting furnace, adding a basic flux into the arc melting furnace after discharging slag, melting the basic flux by electric arc, refining the molten metal by contacting the slag generated through melting of the basic flux with the molten metal, and then, tapping the molten metal from the arc melting furnace and cast.

  • Publication number: 20030110886
Abstract: A metal having a high chromium content, characterized in that it is produced in an arc melting furnace and contains Cr in an amount of 85% or more and has an Al content of 0.005% or less, an Si content of 0.1% or less and an S content of 0.002% or less; and a method for producing the metal having a high chromium content which comprises reducing a chromium oxide heated and melted in an arc melting furnace with Si, to thereby prepare a metal melt containing 85% or more of CR, discharging a slag formed by the reduction with Si from the arc melting furnace, adding a fresh basic flux into the arc melting furnace, melting the basic flux with arc, to bring a slag formed by the melting of the basic flux to contact with the above metal melt and thereby refine the metal melt, and then taking out the refined metal melt from the arc melting furnace, followed by casting.

  • Patent number: 5085265
Abstract: An apparatus for continuous casting of molten steel comprises a continuous casting mold; an electromagnetic stirring coil, which rotates and fluidizes molten steel inside the mold and which is installed outside the mold; and a screen of ferromagnetic substance positioned between the mold and the electromagnetic stirring coil at a height including a level of meniscus. A method for continuous casting of molten steel comprises the steps of pouring molten steel into a continuous casting mold; applying an electromagnetic force to the molten steel in the mold by means of an electromagnetic coil installed outside the continuous casting mold; and shielding said electromagnetic force by means of a screen of ferromagnetic substance installed between the mold and electromagnetic coil at a height including a level of meniscus.
