  • Publication number: 20050078250
Abstract: A continuous domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display (2) has a first substrate (21), a second substrate (22), and liquid crystal molecules (26) interposed between the substrates. A plurality of curved slits (211) and a plurality of curved protrusions (221) are disposed at insides of the substrates respectively. When an electric field is applied between the substrates, the liquid crystal molecules are inclined to be oriented parallel to the substrates. In addition, the curved slits and the curved protrusions affect the orientations of the liquid crystal molecules, such that the liquid crystal molecules are directed to incline in various directions in smooth continuums. The visual effect of the continuous domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display is the sum of multiple smooth continuous domains. Thus the continuous domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display provides a more even display performance at various different viewing angles.

  • Publication number: 20050017937
Abstract: An active matrix driver (10) adapted to controlling display image of a liquid crystal display includes a number of pixel electrode (13), a common electrode (15) combined with the pixel electrode forming a number of capacitances, a number of scanning lines (21) and signal lines (22) intersecting with each other respectively, and a number of thin film transistors (24) positioned vicinity corners of the scanning lines and signal lines, and electrically connected with the pixel electrode, the scanning lines and the signal lines. A time period of the voltage applied on the pixel electrode is changeable according to the gray level needed by the image, and so display different grays are obtained through controlling the time that the voltages is applied to the LCD device.

  • Patent number: 6295113
Abstract: A twisted nematic color liquid crystal display. The liquid crystal display comprises parallel glass substrates covered by a transparent electrode and an alignment film, a twisted nematic liquid crystal between the glass substrates, a retardation layer and polarizers. Between the glass substrates, a liquid crystal unit which forms the liquid crystal has a twist angle about 70 to about 180 about degree while free of an externally applying voltage. A product of anisotropy of refractive index for the twisted nematic liquid crystal &Dgr;n and the thickness d thereof, that is, &Dgr;n·d, is set in a range between about 1100 Å to about 2000 Å. Without using a passive device such as an external color light source or color filter, a multi-color or full color display is formed by an active controlling method of birefringence of electric field via applying a voltage on the transparent electrode.
