  • Patent number: 11800499
Abstract: Two or more personal area networks (or PANs) operating channel hopping schedules may be operated within a vicinity of one another with channel hopping schedules according to IEEE 802.15.4 that are separated by a frequency offset, and collisions between data transmitted by the respective devices of the networks may be avoided. Nodes of a first PAN transmit beacons identifying information regarding a first communications schedule. A node of a second PAN receives the beacon and establishes a second channel hopping schedule at the offset from the first communications schedule. Nodes of PANs may be programmed with communication modes that vary uplink or downlink slots based on quality-of-service or traffic requirements.

  • Patent number: 11395225
Abstract: A method for a first network device involves transmitting, to one or more second network devices, an uplink message that includes an indication of a receive window time interval, and may also include an indication of a request for a downlink message. The method also involves initiating a scheduled receive mode that causes the first network device to transition the first network device to a first power state, and perform a receive window procedure after the receive window time interval has elapsed. The receive window procedure includes transitioning the first network device to a second power state and listening for the downlink message for a duration of time. The method further involves determining that an expiration condition has been met while the first network device is in the scheduled receive mode. Additionally, the method involves terminating the scheduled receive mode upon determining that the expiration condition has been met.

  • Patent number: 11350339
Abstract: A first network device wirelessly transmits announcement messages in quick succession over multiple channels that represent normal operating channels of other network devices. The other network devices receive one of the announcement messages over their respective operating channels, and then send a message to one or more servers indicating that one of the announcement messages has been received. Various parameters and information related to the received announcement message, such as RSSI, SNR, and the contents of the announcement message, are included in the message sent to the one or more servers by each of the other network devices. The one or more servers then incorporate information in the messages sent from the other network devices into a network connectivity graph or table.

  • Patent number: 11240746
Abstract: A mesh network device includes a radio and an application processor coupled to the radio. The application processor includes a network association engine, which receives, receives, from a client consumption device, a requested content identifier; receives, from a first access point, a beacon including a first throughput of the network path between the network ingress device and the first access point; receives, from a second access point, a beacon including a second throughput of the network path between the network ingress device and the second access point; determines that the first throughput exceeds the second throughput; transmits, to the first access point, an association request followed by a digital content request comprising a requested content identifier; receives, from the first access point, the first requested digital content item; and causes the requested digital content item to be rendered by the client consumption device.

  • Patent number: 11089652
Abstract: Coordination and synchronization is performed between two or more wireless network managers (e.g., access points (APs)). A first wireless network manager supports first communications with first other wireless communication devices, and a second wireless network manager supports second communications with those first and/or second other wirelessly case devices. The first and second wireless network managers also support communications with one another to coordinate the first and second communications supported with the first and/or second other wireless communication devices. Examples of coordination include selection of which other wireless communication devices are serviced or in communication with which of the first and second wireless network managers, selection of operational parameters (e.g., modulation coding set (MCS), beamforming, frequency band assignment, channel assignment, scheduling information, transmit power, etc.

  • Patent number: 10813089
Abstract: Embodiments include a method, computer program product, and system for grouping electronic devices into roll-call channel access (RCCA) groups to reduce the number of devices contending for a wireless channel. Devices within RCCA groups are represented a host device during a channel contention process. Once a channel is granted access to a host device, its respective RCCA group has control of the channel for a predetermined period of time during which devices of the RCCA group take turns transmitting data on the channel.

  • Patent number: 10609620
Abstract: Technology for multi-hop power management is described. In one embodiment, processing logic obtains a noise floor value, an interference threshold parameter, a data rate threshold parameter, and a set of channel interference metrics from each of a first mesh network device, a second mesh network device, and a third mesh network device, respectively. The processing logic identifies a network path that traverses the three mesh network devices. The processing logic calculates a first transmit power level for the first mesh network device, a second transmit power level for the second mesh network device, and a third transmit power level for the third mesh network device. Data transmissions by each of the mesh network device at the respective transmit power levels ensure a minimum data transmission rate over each hop of the network path.

  • Patent number: 9907018
Abstract: Session recovery after network coordinator or AP restart for single user, multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. Restart or reset of a network coordinator (e.g., an access point (AP) or other network coordinator type device) may occur for various reasons (e.g., a power cycle or power failure, inadequate failover protection, scheduled or planned power outages such as for including network maintenance, software upgrades, etc.). Upon determination of network coordinator restarted or reset, a singular bit within a communication from the network coordinator indicates synchronization or not of the its timing synchronization function (TSF) (e.g., with other devices in the communication system, such as wireless stations (STAs), smart meter stations (SMSTAs), etc.). A given device (e.g., STA, SMSTA, etc.) can provide its current TSF to the network coordinator so that it can resynchronize, re-establish its scheduled for wake times of those devices (e.g., target wake times (TWTs)), etc.

  • Patent number: 9723539
Abstract: A relay wireless communication device is discovered using probe request. A source device that intends to transmit one or more frames to a destination device transmits the probe request to request a probe response from one or more potential relay devices. A relay device transmits a probe response to the source device when the relay device may operate to forward the one or more frames from the source device to the destination device. The relay device employs one or more considerations to determine its eligibility to serve as relay for the source and destination devices. The source device selects one of the potential relay devices based on their provided probe responses. The source device may select an optimal relay device based upon two or more received probe responses.

  • Patent number: 9693385
Abstract: A wireless communication device is configured to generate frames based on any of a number of different frame formats for transmission to one or more other recipient wireless communication devices. The frame may be implemented to include data intended for two or more recipient devices. The device encodes first data intended for a first recipient device using first one or more coding parameters and encodes second data intended for a second recipient device using second one or more coding parameters. The manner by which the first and second data have been encoded is indicated within one or more other fields within the frames based on the selected frame format. In one example, a single preamble specifies the first and second one or more coding parameters. In another example, an initial preamble and one or more respective sub-preambles specify the first and second one or more coding parameters.
