  • Patent number: 6115537
Abstract: In a digital signal recording and reproducing apparatus, digital input data is transmitted in a transmission packet format and is recorded in a recording packet format. In a recording stage, an auxiliary signal generator (3) generates an auxiliary signal for special reproduction in the transmission packet format, and the digital and auxiliary signals are converted into respective recording packets by means of recording signal converters (5, 6). Recording means (9, 10) performs a specific recording process on the recording packets and an identification signal for identifying between the recording packets of the digital signal and of the auxiliary signal. While in a reproducing stage, reproduction signal processing means (14, 15) performs a specific reproduction process on the reproduction signal to thereby reconstruct the recording packets and the identification signal.

  • Patent number: 6049770
Abstract: A video and voice signal processing apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a signal receiving circuit for receiving an input signal containing a plurality of frames, each frame having an encoded voice signal block and an encoded video signal block. The signal receiving circuit separates the encoded voice signal block from the encoded video signal block in each frame. A voice signal processor converts the encoded voice signal block into a voice signal. Also included is a video extracting circuit which decimates a plurality of encoded video signal blocks and extracts one of the encoded video signal blocks as a representative video signal. A video signal processor converts the representative video signal into a video signal.

  • Patent number: 6038094
Abstract: A plurality of digital signals having total data rates of n bit/s or less are input to a digital recording device recording digital signals having a data rate of n bit/s. The digital signals are subjected to format-conversion for the digital recording device to be recorded therein. Furthermore, signals having a data rate of n/i.sub.1 bit/s or less are subjected to format-conversion to be recorded i.sub.1 times in the digital recording device. In the case where the data rate of the digital signals to be input is n/j bit/s, the digital signals are subjected to format-conversion so that the amount of data capable of being recorded per unit time is decreased by i/j; thus, the digital signals are recorded for a long period of time under the condition that the data recording time is prolonged j times.

  • Patent number: 6031959
Abstract: The video signal input is converted to high-speed reproduction data by a high-speed reproduction data encoder 1. The video signal input is converted to high-speed reproduction data by a formatter 2, which formats the high-speed reproduction data so that the same data is recorded to n tracks. After the recorded data is input to an error correction encoder 3, it is decoded by a decoder 4 and recorded by a recording head 5 to the magnetic tape 6. During reproduction, the recorded data is reproduced by reproduction head 7 from the magnetic tape 6, and decoded by decoder 8. The decoded data is then error corrected by an error correction decoder 9, and then input to a deformatter 10. The deformatter 10 separates the normal reproduction data from the high-speed reproduction data, and separately outputs both data types.

  • Patent number: 5617263
Abstract: An information data composed of a predetermined quantity converted from input data and an information data parity for use in detecting or correcting an error in the information data are formulated. An ID comprising information including position information indicative of a position of the information data relative to a recording medium, and an ID parity for use in detecting or correcting an error in the ID are formulated. Then, a sync pattern is formulated, followed by formulation of a sync block comprised of the sync pattern, the ID, the ID parity, the information data and the information data parity. A plurality of the sync blocks are connected together to provide a recording area. This recording area forms a track together with other recording areas. Three or more consecutive tracks forms a minimum editing unit with which recording or reproduction is carried out.

  • Patent number: 5543937
Abstract: An apparatus serving as a digital videocassette recorder (VCR) for recording analog video and audio signals as digital signals. The apparatus serves also as a digital data storage drive. The digital VCR and the storage drive share common circuitry and a common magnetic recording medium. This reduces the cost and enhances the efficiency at which tracks are used. The apparatus has a large storage capacity. The apparatus divides input digital data into two parts and performs error correction encoding for each of these two data parts to form sync blocks. These sync blocks are recorded in an audio signal recording area and a video signal recording area, respectively, on the recording medium. Error correction codes used during reading of digital data are the same as those used during recording of video and audio signals. The same track structure and the same sync block structure are used for these two modes of operation.

  • Patent number: 5446597
Abstract: In order to reproduce highly important information easily and at high speed, such information is composed into data of fixed length and is assigned from the beginning of a block. Without increasing the recording rate, in order to record a signal so that the highly important information may be reproduced securely, a dummy sync block is inserted immediately before a data sync block which contains the highly important information for defining or explaining the content of the signal to be recorded. To maintain the error correction capability in a normal play mode, moreover, the sync block composition which is the same as in the signal to be recorded is used for the highly important information. In particular, as for such information, by assigning the information in plural sync blocks, reproduction is securely realized also in the case of a trick play mode.

  • Patent number: 5440706
Abstract: Each of a plurality of pages of video data are shuffled, each of the pages being composed of a plurality of blocks of data, using a data memory having a memory capacity of one page. The one page data memory temporarily stores data in a current page. A data address generator generates an address of the data memory so that the data in the current page are written into the data memory in a first sequence and the written data are read out from the data memory in a second sequence which is different from the first sequence to thereby shuffle the data in the current page. The data address generator generates the address such that data in a block in the current page is read from a portion of the data memory indicated by the address generated by the data address generator, and such that data in a block in a next page is written into the portion of the data memory indicated by the address generated by the data address generator.

  • Patent number: 5416600
Abstract: A coded digital video signal is obtained by dividing a digital video signal into plural pages each composed of K fields of pixel data, decomposing pixel data in each two pages into plural blocks each composed of a predetermined number of pixel data, and encoding the pixel data in each block by bit rate reduction encoding and error correction encoding. The thus obtained coded digital video signal is reproduced or transmitted and then subjected to a concealment process. The concealment process includes decoding the coded digital video signal to obtain reproduced blocks of pixel data and to detect an error block containing an error among the reproduced blocks, composing the reproduced blocks to obtain plural reproduced pages of pixel data, and concealing error pixel data contained in the error block in each two reproduced pages. Error pixel data in a first page is concealed using pixel data in a previous page, and error pixel data in a second page is concealed using pixel data in a succeeding page.
