    Abstract: A method of preparing barium fluoroiodide, an iodine-containing barium fluorohalide in which the barium fluoroiodide is used for at least one of materials thereof, and a radiation image conversion panel are provided. In the method of preparing barium fluoroiodide in a suspension preparing step, barium carbonate is added to and mixed with an aqueous solution of hydrogen iodide, such that a molar ratio of the hydrogen iodide to the barium carbonate is 0.5 to 2. A resultant solution is concentrated such that a concentration of barium iodide dissolved in the solution is at least 3.0 mol/l. Then, hydrogen fluoride is added and reacted to generate a precipitate, a rate of addition of the hydrogen fluoride being adjusted such that a molar ratio of the hydrogen fluoride to the barium carbonate added in the suspension preparing step is 0.4 to 0.8 and a theoretical amount of a precipitate of barium fluoroiodide produced during the addition of the hydrogen fluoride is 0.

    Abstract: A method of preparing a barium fluorohalide phosphor including a mixing step in which phosphor materials are mixed, a firing step in which a resulting mixture of phosphor materials is fired, an annealing step, and a cooling step in which the mixture of phosphor materials is cooled to the ordinary temperature. In the firing step, after the mixture of phosphor materials has been fired at a constant temperature, an atmosphere at the time of the firing is removed while the constant temperature is maintained, and is replaced with an atmosphere different from the atmosphere at the time of the firing, and thereafter, annealing is carried out. In the cooling step, the atmosphere at the time of the firing is removed and replaced with a first different atmosphere, and then first cooling is carried out. Further, the first atmosphere is removed and replaced with a second atmosphere, and then second cooling is carried out.

    Abstract: There is provided a method for preparing a highly accelerated-phosphorescent phosphor whose erasability and after-image characteristic are both improved.     Abstract: A recording material is exposed to radiation carrying image information in order to store a radiation image thereon. The recording material is provided with a stimulable phosphor layer constituted of a cerium activated lanthanum oxyhalide phoshor which is represented by the general formula LaOX:xCe, where X is at least one halogen selected from the group consisting of Cl, Br, and I, and x is a number satisfying the condition 0<x.ltoreq.0.2, and in which the atomic ratio X/La satisfies the condition 0.50<X/La.ltoreq.0.998. After a radiation image has been recorded on it, the recording material is exposed to stimulating rays, which cause it to emit light in proportion to the amount of energy stored thereon during its exposure to radiation, and the emitted light is photoelectrically detected in order to obtain an image signal. The recording material is then subjected to primary and secondary erasing operations in order to release any energy still stored thereon.

    Abstract: A radiation image recording and reproducing method comprises the steps of scanning a stimulable phosphor sheet carrying a radiation image stored thereon with stimulating rays, and detecting light emitted by the stimulable phosphor sheet upon stimulation by stimulating rays to obtain an image signal. The image signal including a stimulated light emission signal and an after-glow signal representing a stimulated light emission after-glow emanated by the portion of the stimulable phosphor sheet no longer being exposed to stimulating rays is detected in such a condition that the level of the after-glow signal at a position on the stimulable phosphor sheet 20 mm beyond the position where exposure to stimulating rays is completed is not higher than 10.sup.-2.5 times the level of the stimulated light emission signal, and the level of the after-glow signal at a position 430 mm beyond the position where exposure to stimulating rays is completed is not higher than 10.sup.-3.

    Abstract: A radiation image read-out apparatus comprises a light shielding material removal section for removing a light shielding material by dissolution or separation from a stimulable phosphor sheet comprising a stimulable phosphor layer and the light shielding material which is provided at least on a surface on the stimulable phosphor layer side and which is removable by dissolution in a solvent or by physical separation, the stimulable phosphor sheet carrying a radiation image stored on the stimulable phosphor layer. A read-out section is provided for reading out the radiation image by exposing the stimulable phosphor sheet, from which the light shielding material has been removed, to stimulating rays which cause the stimulable phosphor sheet to emit light in proportion to the stored radiation energy, and photoelectrically detecting the emitted light.

    Abstract: In a radiation image recording and read-out system in which a radiation image is once recorded on a recording material comprising a stimulable phosphor layer, the recording material is then scanned with a laser beam, and light emitted from the recording material is photoelectrically read out to reproduce a visible image, a gas ion laser beam having a wavelength shorter than 600 nm is employed as the laser beam. The recording material is fixed on a supporting material, circulated and reused to record radiation images thereon. The apparatus comprises a mechanism for circulating the recording material with respect to the image read-out section by repeatedly moving the supporting material and the image read-out section with respect to each other, and an erasing apparatus for eliminating the radiation energy remaining in the recording material after the read-out step.

    Abstract: An apparatus for erasing noise in a stimulable phosphor sheet used for a radiation image recording and reproducing system in which a radiation image is once recorded on the phosphor sheet and then read out and reproduced to a visible image. The apparatus comprises an erasing light source emitting light having a wavelength within the range of 400 nm to 600 nm, a loader for carrying the phosphor sheet into the apparatus, a holder for holding the phosphor sheet in the position facing the erasing light source, and an unloader for carrying the phosphor sheet out of the position facing the erasing light source. The erasing light source may be a fluorescent lamp, a laser source, an Na lamp, an Ne lamp, a metal halide lamp or an Xe lamp. It preferably comprises many aperture type white fluorescent lamps positioned in parallel with one another along an oblique plane, and the phosphor sheet is moved up therealong.
