  • Patent number: 6508596
Abstract: A plurality of digital signals having total data rates of n bit/s or less are input to a digital recording device recording digital signals having a data rate of n bit/s. The digital signals are subjected to format-conversion for the digital recording device to be recorded therein. Furthermore, signals having a data rate of n/i1 bit/s or less are subjected to format-conversion to be recorded i1 times in the digital recording device. In the case where the data rate of the digital signals to be input is n/j bit/s, the digital signals are subjected to format-conversion so that the amount of data capable of being recorded per unit time is decreased by i/j; thus, the digital signals are recorded for a long period of time under the condition that the data recording time is prolonged j times.

  • Patent number: 5367334
Abstract: An encoding and decoding apparatus for a video signal and a high-definition television signal is disclosed. For the picture A having the horizontal to vertical screen frame ratio of 4:3, the picture B having the horizontal to vertical screen frame ratio of 16:9 and the picture C having the horizontal to vertical screen frame ratio of 16:9 and having a larger number of vertical pixels than that of the picture A and picture B, the apparatus limits the band of the picture C to obtain the picture D having the same numbers of horizontal and vertical pixels respectively as those of the picture B, and high-efficiency encodes the picture A, picture B or picture D in the same method. The apparatus obtains the additional picture E which is a difference between the picture D and the picture C, or a difference between the picture D' which is a result of decoding a signal that has been obtained by high-efficiency encoding the picture D and the picture C, and then high-efficiency encodes the additional picture E obtained.

  • Patent number: 5278706
Abstract: In a digital video signal recording/reproducing apparatus for recording digital VCR video and audio signals by using a rotary cylinder, for a video signal with a frame frequency fN of 30 Hz or 29.97 Hz, the rotating frequency of the cylinder is set to 2.5 times fN. On the other hand, for a signal with a frame frequency fP of 25 Hz, the rotating frequency of the cylinder is set to 3.0 times fP. As a result, as long as the cylinder diameters are identical, the relative speed of the tape and the head is the same for video signals of either frame frequency fN or fP.

  • Patent number: 4760378
Abstract: A systematic method and apparatus for constructing a run length limited code in which the minimum number of continuous bits of the same binary value is constrained to d and the maximum number thereof is constrained to k.In converting m-bit data words to n-bit code words (n>m) to construct the run length limited code, selection means for n-bit code words usable to meet the d, k-constraint and a concatenation rule of the code words selected by the selection means are introduced. The selection means divides each of 2.sup.n n-bit bit sequences into a leading block L having l continuous bits of the same binary value, an end block R having .gamma. continuous bits of the same binary value and an intermediate block B having b(=n-l-.gamma.) bits between the blocks L and R.Only those n-bit bit sequences in which the blocks B thereof completely meet the d, k-constraint and the blocks L and R thereof meet conditions uniquely defined for given d and k are used as the code words.

  • Patent number: 4719519
Abstract: A video signal recording and reproducing apparatus wherein in the recording mode, a luminance signal and a pair of color difference signals are divided into two groups each to be alloted for each horizontal scan period. The divided luminance signal is expanded along the time axis to such an extent as to exceed slightly the horizontal blanking period and the divided two color difference signals are compressed along the time axis. The time-processed luminance signal and two color difference signals are multiplexed in time division to produce two multiplexed signals lasting for two horizontal scan periods, which are separated, processed and recorded on separate tracks.

  • Patent number: 4597021
Abstract: A video signal recording and reproducing apparatus in which the luminance signal of a color video signal is frequency-modulated for recording and a reproduction frequency-modulated signal is frequency-demodulated to produce a reproduction video signal. A high frequency component is separated from the reproduction video signal and applied to a slice circuit comprising nonlinear elements including, for example, diodes connected in parallel with reverse polarities, thus eliminating noise at the low frequency signals included in the high frequency component. The apparatus further comprises a device for subtracting the sliced signal and the reproduced video signal one from the other in such a manner that the two signals are in phase with each other substantially at the desired ratio and in a predetermined frequency band.

  • Patent number: 4425585
Abstract: A portable video tape recorder for broadcasting applications comprises a pair of video heads mounted diametrically opposite to each other on the circumference of a rotary cylinder. High and low frequency carriers are modulated by frequency modulators with I and Q signals, respectively, and frequency division multiplexed for application to the video heads. The frequency values of the carriers are selected so that third-order distortion noise caused by the hysteresis characteristics of the video heads and the magnetic tape may fall within a frequency range differing from the frequencies of the modulated carriers by an amount greater than the bandwidth of the I and Q signals which are demodulated by frequency demodulators to prevent the occurrence of beat interference in the frequency band of the reproduced video signal.

  • Patent number: 4400742
Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus, for recording and reproducing the color television signal including VIR signal, of the type having a comb filter which is inserted in the chrominance signal system and includes a delay line for causing a delay equal to one horizontal line scanning period. In this apparatus the VIR signal has no line correlation so that the output of the comb filter becomes a VIR signal the amplitude of which is reduced by 6dB and that the amplitude and/or phase of the chrominance components of VIR signal are caused to vary over a wide range due to the effects of VIT signal.

  • Patent number: 4400741
Abstract: In a video tape recorder, luminance and chrominance signals are recorded respectively by first and second transducer heads along separate tracks skewed to the direction of tape motion. The transducer heads are rotated during particular modes such as slow-motion or still picture reproduction, in a tape-head speed relationship different from the normal tape-head speed relationship, causing the transducer heads to traverse several tracks. A switching circuit is coupled to the transducer heads to selectively connect the outputs of the heads to an output circuit in response to a point of transition of amplitude of the output signal from the second head to cancel unwanted signal components detected by the heads during traversal across the tracks.

  • Patent number: 4399472
Abstract: Luminance and chrominance signals, which are interleaved with respective synchronization signals, are recorded through the use of two video transducer heads alternately in skewed separate tracks of a recording tape. Upon reproduction, the timing signals are separated from the luminance and chrominance signals and compared in phase between them to detect the phase difference between the luminance and chrominance signals. A variable delay line is provided to introduce a variable delay interval as a function of the detected phase difference to the one of the signals which is advanced in phase relative to the other. The time axis deviation of the video signal from a standard phase is also detected by a comparison between the time base, or horizontal sync pulse, and a reference time base to introduce a delay time to both the luminance and chrominance signals.

  • Patent number: 4137547
Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproducing system which separates a brightness signal and a carrier color signal from a color television signal, frequency modulates the brightness signal and converts the carrier color signal to a lower frequency, records the modulated brightness signal and the low frequency carrier color signal in different manner for each horizontal scan line such that phases of the carrier are different between adjacent record tracks, and plays back the recorded signal through a comb filter to eliminate crosstalk from adjacent tracks in the carrier color signal. In this system, a horizontal synch. signal is eliminated in response to the detection of dropouts so as to prevent the disturbance of AFC and APC loops by dropouts, which would otherwise create color irregularity, and the horizontal synch. signal free of noise due to dropouts is used to activate the AFC and APC loops.
