  • Publication number: 20230109044
Abstract: An apparatus and/or method may be implemented in accordance with aspects characterized herein. A controller may identify a state of an image forming apparatus and generate feedback signals to instruct a mechanical actuator, which moves an imaging component of an image forming apparatus to indicate the state. Accordingly, mechanical printing type componentry, such as linear, rotary, print head or scanning mechanisms, may be utilized for carrying out printing-related functions and to generate audible, visual and/or haptic feedback.

  • Publication number: 20230001717
Abstract: Techniques for determination of size of printable medium are described. In an example, a printing device includes an adjuster that is movable based on a size of a printable medium to be fed to the printing device. A first element is coupled to the adjuster and moves with the adjuster to indicate a position of the adjuster. A second element is movable relative to the adjuster. A position signal indicative of a distance between the second element and the first element is generated. The position signal can be used to determine the size of the printable medium.

  • Patent number: 7303189
Abstract: A media handling system is disclosed, which system includes a media picking unit for picking up individual media sheets from a stack of media sheets and a media output unit for advancing a printed media sheet toward an output area. The media picking unit includes a rotatable lifting shaft, a rotatable pick roller shaft, a pick roller and a pick arm. The pick roller is rotatably connected to one end of a pick arm, and the one end of the pick arm is pivotally connected to the pick roller shaft. The media output unit includes at least one sheet support member operable to support the printed portion of the media sheet above the output area. The sheet support member is linked to the lifting shaft by a linking structure such that the sheet support member is movable between a supporting position and a retracted position by a rotational movement the lifting shaft.

  • Publication number: 20060285909
Abstract: A pinch plate lifting apparatus in a printer for lifting a pinch plate from a linefeed roller is provided. The pinch plate lifting apparatus includes a camshaft rotatably mounted in the printer and at least one cam attached to the camshaft. The cam has a predefined profile and is able to rotate together with the camshaft. The predefined profile of the cam abuts the pinch plate such that the lifting of the pinch plate from the linefeed roller is controllable by the rotation of the camshaft.

  • Patent number: 6547236
Abstract: A pick-up mechanism and a method for performing a pick-up cycle in a reproduction machine. The pick-up mechanism comprises a pick-up control pinion which is firmly coupled to a control cam, and a drive gearing including a first rocker driving gear and a second rocker driving gear. The first and second rocker driving gears are mounted to a rocker device to be alternately engaged into and disengaged from, respectively, the pick-up control pinion. Upon starting the pick-up operation, the second rocker driving gear is drivingly engaged into a toothed section of the pick-up control pinion, and, in the course of the pick-up operation, the first rocker driving gear is drivingly engaged into the toothed section of the pick-up control pinion.

  • Publication number: 20030053836
Abstract: A device having a mechanical safety interlock is disclosed. The device has at least one moveable part contained in a housing. The moveable part is accessible through an opening in the housing. The device includes a cover for covering the opening. The mechanical safety interlock includes an actuator attached to the cover and a mechanical driver supported in the housing adjacent the moveable part. The driver is biased away from the moveable part to a disengaged position to interrupt transmission of mechanical movement from the driver to the moveable part. When the cover is brought to cover the opening, the actuator engages the driver to bring the driver to an engaged position to allow the moveable part to tap mechanical movement of the driver to thereby be driven.

  • Patent number: 6152440
Abstract: A sheet media handling system for aligned feeding of sheet media of different widths is disclosed. This sheet media handling system caters to a wide-format printer which has two media trays, a main tray and a bypass tray positioned above the main tray. In such a printer, a larger width sheet medium in the bypass tray is insufficiently supported when a stack of smaller width sheet media is present in the main tray. Such a situation may result in skewing or jamming of the larger width sheet medium. The sheet media handling system overcomes such a problem by having a secondary pressure plate in addition to a primary pressure plate. This secondary pressure plate is moveable independently of the primary pressure plate so that the secondary pressure plate is operable to provide appropriate support for the partially supported larger width sheet medium in the bypass tray.
