  • Patent number: 11577203
Abstract: A planar membrane cartridge includes a support and a semi-permeable membrane layer. The support includes a first layer attached to a second layer and defining a front face and a back face of the support. At least one of the first layer and the second layer form a first embossment and a second embossment. Respective back faces of the first layer and the second layer are attached to each other along edges of the first embossment and of the second embossment, such that the first embossment defines a fluid compartment between the first layer and the second layer and the second embossment defines an internal channel between the first layer and the second layer which is isolated from the fluid compartment. An area of the first layer corresponding to the first embossment is covered by the semi-permeable membrane layer.

  • Publication number: 20140138299
Abstract: Described herein is air gap membrane distillation apparatus comprising a module (500) including a stack (510) of condenser frames, membrane frames and distillate frame assemblies sandwiched between a front plate (520) and a back plate (530). Inlet and outlet connectors (560, 565, 570, 575) are provided that are connected internally to fluid channels defined by openings in the frames forming the stack (510). Distillate drain outlets (550) are connected to distillate channels (555) for collecting distillate condensed on condenser surfaces within the stack (510). Modules can also be used for other types of membrane distillation, the required frames being selected for optimisation of the distillation process. By using modules, each part of the distillation process can be individually optimised without affecting the efficiency of other parts of the process.

  • Patent number: 7861869
Abstract: A process for manufacturing asymmetric braid reinforced capillary ultra- or micro-filtration membranes (1), including the subsequent steps of pulling a tubular braid (5) through a spinneret (7) and coating the braid with a dope. Prior to the coating step, the braid is impregnated with a non-coagulation liquid, being a liquid which does not cause coagulation of the dope, when brought in contact with the dope. The result is a membrane with an outer skin, i.e. smaller pores near the outside diameter than near the inside diameter, and a coating which is closely arranged around the outside diameter of the braid, without any substantial penetration of the coating into the braid.

  • Patent number: 7862718
Abstract: A membrane has a permeate channel including a 3D spacer fabric having an upper and a lower fabric surface (2,3) spaced apart by monofilament thread (4) at a predefined distance, the permeate channel being interposed between two membrane layers (12, 13), wherein the membrane layers are linked at a multitude of points with the upper and lower fabric surfaces to form an integral structure with a high bonding strength suitable for backflush operations. A method provides an integrated permeate channel membrane, including the steps of: —Providing a 3D spacer fabric having an upper and lower surface fabric (2,3) spaced apart by monofilament thread (4) at a predefined distance; and—Applying a membrane layer to both the upper and the lower surface fabric.
