Abstract: A Swimguard protection system for detecting a person in distress in a body of water includes one or more sensors directed at the body of water, an alarm system configured to sound an audible alarm if a person is detected to be in distress, and a computing device in electrical communication with the one or more sensors and the alarm system. The computing device is configured to execute a deep learning algorithm that detects an event indicative that a person is in distress in the body of water. Characteristically, the computing device is further configured to send a trigger to the alarm system to provide an audio alarm upon the detection of such an event.
