  • Publication number: 20170080908
Abstract: A method for controlling an active aerodynamic element in a vehicle having road wheels with tires in contact with a road surface includes receiving driver input signals and vehicle kinematics data. The driver input signals correspond to a requested aerodynamic performance operating point. Tire coefficients of friction in the longitudinal and lateral directions are provided to the controller. Desired longitudinal and lateral forces acting on the tires are determined using the input signals, kinematics data, and actual force data. Additionally, a desired total aerodynamic downforce for meeting the aerodynamic performance operating point is determined as a function of the tire forces and coefficients. A position of the aerodynamic element(s) is controlled such that the total aerodynamic downforce is achieved. A system includes the aerodynamic element(s), actuator(s), and controller. A vehicle includes the body, road wheels, active aerodynamic element(s), actuator(s), and controller.

  • Publication number: 20170080987
Abstract: A vehicle has first and second portions, with a front aerodynamic element located in the first portion and a rear aerodynamic element located in the second portion. The front and rear aerodynamic elements are each independently movable to respective deployment positions between respective stowed positions and respective fully-extended positions. A controller is operatively connected to each of the front and rear aerodynamic elements and has a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory. The controller is programmed to obtain a front target position (Tf,n) for the front aerodynamic element at a current time step (n) based at least partially on at least one vehicle state parameter at a previous time-step (n?1) and a detected position (Dr,n?1) of the rear aerodynamic element at the previous time-step (n?1).

  • Patent number: 9338160
Abstract: A method and system for a content provider to enable the consumption of content by properly entitled consumers (e.g., end-users, clients, customers) within a cloud provider network. A first certificate checkin service (CCS) executed by a processing device deployed in the cloud provider network receives a first set of usage data relating to content of a content provider consumed by a client of the cloud provider network. The first CCS provides the usage data to a communicatively coupled parent CCS. The first CCS provides the parent CCS with a request for entitlement data relating to the cloud provider, and stores the entitlement data received from the parent CCS. The entitlement data may be used by the first CCS to determine if the client is entitled to consume the content.

  • Patent number: 9091833
Abstract: A cable retention structure defining a castellated fiber cable clamping surface. The castellated surface has a series of alternating small and large cavities distributed along the axial direction. The small cavities are sized such that when the castellated surface is pressed against the buffer jacket exterior of the fiber cable, the small cavities will be able to clamp the fiber cable jacket within its full dimensional tolerance range. The large cavities are sized to provide sufficient clearance to accommodate the relatively soft material of the cable jacket which cannot be accommodated by the small cavities. The cable jacket is securely held by the retention structure to prevent slipping. Accordingly, fiber cables having buffer jackets with large dimensional variations can still be securely retained by the castellated retention structure in accordance with the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20100156643
Abstract: Described is an animal training system for delivering a stimulus to an animal, whereby the intensity of the stimulus is selected from a plurality of intensities that is within a selectable range of available intensities. More specifically, each of the plurality of intensities is within the range of available intensities. The range of available intensities is selected or defined by a user such that the lower limit and the upper limit of the selected range of available intensities defines the lower limit for minimum intensity and the upper limit for the maximum intensity of the plurality of intensities, respectively. Accordingly, each of the plurality of intensities is defined by the selected range of available intensities.

  • Publication number: 20050167092
Abstract: A thermal reservoir for a two-pipe hydronic air-conditioning system is disclosed. Said thermal reservoir includes a well-insulated tank for alternatively storing hot and cold water. Said thermal reservoir contains plurality of valves for directing hot water stored therein into the two-pipe hydronic air-conditioning system, thereby causing cold water within the two-pipe hydronic air-conditioning system to be displaced therefrom and into well insulated storage tank. Said process is fully reversible in that cold water displaced from the two-pipe hydronic air-condition system into said thermal reservoir may be subsequently directed from the thermal reservoir and restored to the two-pipe hydronic air-conditioning system and hot water therefrom directed back into storage. Accordingly a two-pipe hydronic air-conditioning system may be switched between heating and cooling modes with rapidity and without waste of the energy content of said hot water and said cold water.

  • Publication number: 20030121095
Abstract: A bathing chair is provided that swivels on a fixed base and includes a leg support assembly. The combination of the leg support and the swiveling action of the chair allows a disabled or handicapped bather to comfortably enter and/or exit a bathtub or a shower stall without the aid of another person. The leg support also allows the legs of the bather to clear obstacles, such as the ledge of a bathtub or the lip of a shower stall, without the aid of another person. The bathing chair also includes a single support assembly that is capable of supporting the bathing chair and a bather without the need for any additional support structures. The need for only a single support assembly to adequately support the chair provides a bathing chair that is sturdy, lightweight and simple to install.

  • Patent number: 6213341
Abstract: Change dispensing apparatus having multiple columns for storing and vending tubes containing change in coin or in currency. The denominations being vended by a particular machine, the unit value of that denomination, and the value of a tube containing a predetermined quantity of that denomination, are user-programmable for each machine, and any combination of denominations can be user-assigned to the columns. The tube locations in each column are monitored to detect tubes in each column, providing a running indication of the amount of change remaining for each denomination in the safe, and for the total value of change in the safe. An ejector is positionable at the lower end of each column and contains a member for selectably extracting the lowermost tube in each column. The change safe on request prints reports of change usage and other factors associated with the safe, and also predicts the amount of change required for future usage.
