  • Publication number: 20100312179
Abstract: A method for creating space in a joint, the method comprising: applying force to a body part so as to distract the joint and create an intrajoint space; inserting an expandable member into the intrajoint space while the expandable member is in a contracted condition; expanding the expandable member within the intrajoint space; and reducing the force applied to the body part so that the joint is supported on the expandable member.

  • Publication number: 20100076440
Abstract: A microfracture instrument for applying microfracture therapy to a bone, the microfracture instrument comprising: an elongated shaft comprising a distal end and a proximal end; a needle comprising a body terminating in at least one sharp point, the needle being movably mounted to the distal end of the shaft for movement between an extended position for engaging the bone with the at least one sharp point of the needle and a retracted position for withdrawing the at least one sharp point of the needle from the bone; and a drive shaft movably mounted to the elongated shaft, the drive shaft being connected to the body of the needle so that movement of the drive shaft relative to the elongated shaft moves the needle between its extended position and its retracted position.

  • Publication number: 20090198274
Abstract: A system for securing soft tissue to bone, the system comprising: a center post anchor comprising a body adapted for disposition in bone and having a retention element thereon for retaining the body in bone, the center post anchor comprising a suture having a first portion secured to the body and a second portion residing free of the body and adapted to be passed through the soft tissue which is to be secured to the bone; and a bridge post anchor comprising a body adapted for disposition in bone and having a retention element thereon for retaining the body in bone, the bridge post anchor including a capture element for capturing the second portion of the suture to the bone, such that when the center post anchor is disposed in bone and the second portion of the suture extends through in bone can secure the soft tissue to the bone.

  • Publication number: 20090182340
Abstract: A safety needle comprising a handle; a hollow needle; a trigger carriage; an obturator; a spring; a trigger; a first latch and a second latch; the first latch, second latch and trigger being configured so that when the trigger carriage is in a distal position and the first latch set, and the trigger is thereafter pulled proximally, the first latch is released and the trigger carriage moves proximally into a proximal position, and thereafter releasing the trigger causes the trigger carriage to move into an intermediate position and set the second latch; and further wherein, when the trigger carriage is in its intermediate position and the distal end of the obturator engages tissue, the trigger carriage is moved proximally so as to release the second latch.

  • Publication number: 20090131956
Abstract: A suture passer comprising: a handle; a shaft extending distally from the handle; first and second jaw members mounted to the distal end of the shaft, the first jaw member having a suture support for supporting a length of suture; a pitch adjustment mechanism for adjusting the pitch of the first and second jaw members relative to the shaft; a lever mechanism for opening and closing the first and second jaw members relative to one another; and a needle mechanism for selectively urging a needle having a groove therein so that the groove in the needle can engage a length of suture supported by the suture support.

  • Publication number: 20070167960
Abstract: Devices and methods for tissue acquisition and fixation, or gastroplasty, are described. Generally, the devices of the system may be advanced in a minimally invasive manner within a patient's body to create one or more plications within the hollow body organ. A tissue treatment device attached to a distal end of a flexible elongated member and has a cartridge member opposite an anvil member. The cartridge member and the anvil member are movable between a closed position and an open position, and a moveable barrier is disposed between the cartridge and anvil members to help acquire a dual fold of tissue. The tissue treatment device can be repositioned to form multiple plications within the organ.
