Abstract: An apparatus for holding a tissue sample including a retaining member having a first tissue engaging surface and at least one biasing element, the first tissue engaging surface being moveably attached to the retaining member by said biasing element; and a base having a second tissue engaging surface and configured to engage the retaining member to form an interior area with the first and second tissue engaging surfaces facing each other, wherein the at least one biasing element urges the first tissue engaging surface toward the second tissue engaging surface to retain the tissue sample therebetween in the interior area.

Abstract: An optical information storage medium includes a multilayer film that includes a plurality of extruded alternating active data storage layers and buffer layers, which separate the active data storage layers. The active data storage layers and buffer layers have thicknesses that allow the active data storage layers to be writable by permanent or reversible one- or multiphoton, linear, nonlinear, or threshold optical writing processes to define data voxels within the active data storage layers that are readable by an optical reading device.

Abstract: Methods, systems and machine readable tangible storage media that provide a user interface to an application store. In one embodiment, an icon representing an application being transferred to a user device appears to fly across the display area during the download and installation of the application before landing on a dock or other program control area from which the application can subsequently be launched. The user device synchronizes the flight of the icon with the progress of the download and installation by tracking the progress in communication with the server from which the application was transferred. The appearance of flight can be both vertical and horizontal and the icon bounces after the download and installation is complete conveying to the user that the application is ready to launch. The appearances of the locations from which the icon begins and ends its journey are changed to enhance the simulation of flight. Other embodiments are also described.

An application control screen having a set of objects that represent functions for an audio application may also be displayed. One of the objects on the application control screen is modified in response status changes in the external audio device. A user may select this object to access the routing screen when the external audio device is connected.

Power is conserved by not clocking the modem computer system 104 and the shared memory 108-110 during times when modem functions are not needed. The shared memory modules 108-110 are loaded with a binary memory image for use by the modem computer subsystem 104 from a memory 222 under control of the general computing subsystem 102. When needed, the modem computing subsystem 104 is activated to monitor a paging channel, and disabled when it is no longer desired to monitor the paging channel.

Abstract: Graphical user interface and computer program products are disclosed for providing a unique user interface that allows a GUI developer significant flexibility and strength in designing a layout for an application user interface in a Java™ environment. This is done while keeping the process for the developer simple and efficient. The developer can “drag and drop” components from a palette to a container. Once in the container, the developer can specify row and column types and attachment/alignment options for the component. This can be done using a simple icon set. The developer can also dynamically add new rows and columns to the layout design. Adjustments to the position and size of a component are made automatically and numerous row and column types can be specified.
