Patent number: 11927172Abstract: The invention provides a method of forming a wind turbine blade. The blade has a main blade module that defines a main body of the blade and includes a first mating feature, e.g. a tongue. The blade also includes a separate edge module that defines at least part of a trailing edge of the blade and includes a second mating feature, e.g. a recess. The method includes applying an adhesive to at least one of the first mating feature and the second mating feature. The method includes arranging the separate edge module relative to the main blade module such that the first and second mating features are mutually adjacent. The method includes applying a pressure force to squeeze the adhesive to bond the first and second mating features together. The pressure force is caused by removing air from, or injecting air into, an air sealed region.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2020Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: Vestas Wind Systems A/SInventors: Chris Sutton, Paul Lewis, James Olive, Steven Pascoe, Ashleigh Porter

Patent number: 11346328Abstract: A wind turbine rotor blade lightning receptor arrangement (12) is provided with an electrically conductive block (123) and a shielding component (122). In use, the electrically conductive block (123) forms an electrical bridge between a receptor element (121) of a lightning protection system and a down conductor (15) of the lightning protection system. The electrically conductive block (123) comprises a first engagement surface (124) for, in use, receiving the receptor element (121). The shielding component (122) overlays a portion of the first engagement surface (124) of the electrically conductive block (123), while leaving open an area for receiving the receptor element (121).Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2018Date of Patent: May 31, 2022Assignee: Vestas Wind Systems A/SInventors: Nathan A. Brilliant, Chris Sutton

Patent number: 11319933Abstract: A rotor blade for a wind turbine comprising: an internal blade cavity defined by two opposing internal surfaces of two shells of the rotor blade; a receptor block forming part of a lightning protection system and disposed within the internal blade cavity; and a centralising device that spaces the receptor block from the two opposing internal surfaces of the shells such that the receptor block lies centrally within the internal blade cavity. The receptor block is therefore in a desired position for installing receptors for lightning discharge.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2018Date of Patent: May 3, 2022Assignee: Vestas Wind Systems A/SInventor: Chris Sutton

Patent number: 10652398Abstract: In applications where assisted listening headphones are worn inside of a theater, phase cancellation effects cause the headset wearer to perceive the audio as reduced in volume and distorted. These undesirable phase cancellation effects may be disrupted through preprocessing or real time processing of the headset audio track by summing acoustical noise with the original headset audio track and providing this altered audio track to the headset. The acoustical noise is modulated such that it is imperceptible to the headset wearer while at the same time disrupting undesirable phase cancellation effects, which would otherwise occur if the headset audio track was provided unaltered. Thus, the preprocessing of the headset audio preserves the integrity of the intended headset audio, as perceived by the headset wearer, in headsets worn in a theater environment.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2017Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: THEATER EARS, LLCInventor: Chris Sutton
