    Abstract: A method and system generates World Wide Numbers for devices and LUNs which are not provided with such number. The method extracts from the devices of information data which when treated in combination is device unique. A CRC is then generated using the combination of information data. The bit length of the CRC is selected to match the WWN standard required and the CRC is used in the WWN in place of vendor.
