  • Patent number: 8744590
Abstract: A method of configuring a prosthesis having two or more electrode contacts, including configuring the prosthesis to provide stimulation to a first tissue site from a subset of electrode contacts based on data based on a comparison of first data to second data, wherein the first data is based on respective estimated voltages for the first site and one or more of additional respective sites to be applied by the subset of electrode contacts, the respective estimated voltages being based on empirical stimulation data for the first and additional sites, and the second data is based on respective target voltages for the first and additional sites, respectively.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 11, 2012
Date of Patent: June 3, 2014
    Assignee: Cochlear Limited
Inventors: Zachary Smith, Chris van den Honert

  • Patent number: 8521296
Abstract: The present application discloses systems, methods, and articles of manufacture for characterizing hearing prosthesis channel interaction. Some embodiments may include applying a probe signal to a region of auditory neurons via a first hearing prosthesis channel, and applying a perturber signal to the region of auditory neurons via a second hearing prosthesis channel, where the perturber signal is configured to cause a polarity-independent neural excitation in an auditory neuron. Some embodiments may additionally include measuring one or more metrics corresponding to a neural response to the application of the probe and perturber signals.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 18, 2011
Date of Patent: August 27, 2013
    Assignee: Cochlear Limited
    Inventor: Chris van den Honert
  • Patent number: 8412341
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for controlling the operation of a Cochlear implant prosthesis to optimize the effect of stimulation for a given patient. The optimal operation mode is determined in accordance with predetermined parameters measured from the neural response of the patient's auditory system in response to a neural stimulation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 1, 2004
Date of Patent: April 2, 2013
    Assignee: Cochlear Limited
Inventors: Chris Van Den Honert, Ernst Ludwig Von Wallenberg, Norbert Dillier, Wai Kong Lai, Jochen Nicolai, Mathias Stecker, Joachim Mueller-Delle, Denise Cafarelli Dees, Roland Laszig

  • Patent number: 8036753
Abstract: A method of stimulating an auditory nerve to produce a percept in response to a detected sound signal. At least one characteristic of the sound signal is identified, and a stimulation mode is selected based on the identified characteristic. The selected stimulation mode is then used for stimulating the auditory nerve to convey the sound signal to the prosthesis recipient. Multiple characteristics of the detected sound signal may be assigned distinct stimulation modes.

Date of Patent: October 11, 2011
    Assignee: Cochlear Limited
Inventors: Bomjun Kwon, Chris van den Honert
