Patent number: 11299383Abstract: A system and method for dispensing beverage from a container, such as wine from a wine bottle. Dispensing may be automatically controlled based on a detected orientation of the container, e.g., dispensing may occur when a bottle is tilted as if to pour from the bottle and stopped when the bottle is oriented upright. Dispensing may be stopped when the container is rotated about its longitudinal axis even while in a pour orientation. A remaining amount of beverage in the container and/or an amount of pressurized gas used to drive dispensing may be detected and beverage dispensing controlled accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2021Date of Patent: April 12, 2022Assignee: Coravin, Inc.Inventors: Michael Rider, Gregory Lambrecht, Andrew S. Sweezey, Chris Vogt

Patent number: 11180309Abstract: Devices and methods for dispensing beverage from a container, such as a wine bottle, using a dispensing device. The device may automatically purge at least one conduit used to deliver gas to a beverage container or to carry beverage from the beverage container in response to detecting that a dispensing operation is about to begin, or in response to detecting that a dispensing operation is complete. Visual or other displays may be provided to the user to indicate that the device is ready for use in dispensing, that a conduit is in fluid communication with the container interior and/or that the device is controlling components to dispense beverage.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2019Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: Coravin, Inc.Inventors: Michael Rider, Andrew S. Sweezey, Chris Vogt

Patent number: 8227719Abstract: Fusarium infected grain is separated by comparing reflected and transmitted light at two wavelengths, one at which the light is substantially reflected and scattered the same by healthy and infected kernels, the other at which the light is reflected and scattered to a significantly greater degree by infected than healthy kernels. An apparatus having a rotating apertured cylinder, with a low internal vacuum, allows comparison of individual kernels. When comparison indicates that a kernel is infected, a lever dislodges it from the cylinder allowing it to fall into a receptacle for infected kernels. Kernels remaining on the cylinder are scraped off to fall into a receptacle for healthy kernels. Although results vary, to some extent depending on the degree of infection, approximately 90% of healthy kernels and 5% of infected kernels are deemed “healthy”, while approximately 10% of healthy kernels and 95% of infected kernels are deemed “infected,” reducing the level of infected kernels.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2009Date of Patent: July 24, 2012Assignee: Spectrum Scientific Inc.Inventors: David A. Prystupa, Jennifer Powell, Matthew Allen, Chris Vogt
