Publication number: 20110262210Abstract: A binding mechanism assembly for binding a sheet item, the binding mechanism assembly including a backing member having an upper surface, and a binding member directly or indirectly coupled to the backing member. The binding member includes a protrusion shaped and located to protrude through a hole of a sheet item to be bound thereto. The binding member further includes a generally flexible flange that is manually movable into engagement with the protrusion to form a generally closed loop and thereby bind the sheet item thereto. The loop is rotatable relative to the backing member from a first position in which the loop is generally located above the upper surface to a second position wherein at least part of the loop is located below the upper surface. A release mechanism is provided for opening the loop.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2011Publication date: October 27, 2011Applicant: MeadWestvaco CorporationInventors: Edward P. Busam, Richard H. Publication number: 20110071433Abstract: A biopsy device includes a needle extending distally from a body. The needle includes a transverse aperture, a first lumen, and a second lumen. A cutter is movable within the first lumen to sever tissue protruding through the transverse aperture. A valve assembly is operable to change the pneumatic state of the second lumen. The valve assembly includes a valve body and a translating member slidably disposed in a bore of the valve body. The valve body includes a first port and a second port. The first port is in fluid communication with the second lumen of the needle. The second port is in fluid communication with atmospheric air. The translating member selectively couples the first port with the second port based on the longitudinal position of the translating member within the bore. The translating member translates relative to the valve body based on the position of the cutter.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2010Publication date: March 24, 2011Applicant: DEVICOR MEDICAL PRODUCTS, INC.Inventors: John A. Patent number: 7465278Abstract: A medical device for severing and removing small amounts of internal tissue for biopsy sampling or other purposes is disclosed. Versions of the device may include a hollow probe having a tissue receiving aperture; a cutter having a cutting edge that moves past the tissue receiving aperture, and a cutter driving mechanism. Versions of the device also may include a vacuum plunger within the probe, and coordinated actuation of the vacuum plunger and the cutter driving mechanism whereby an effective vacuum is developed and maintained within the probe to draw tissue into the tissue receiving aperture prior to and during a cutting stroke of the cutter. Versions described may be used for removing multiple samples of tissue during a single insertion of the probe proximate to a target tissue mass.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2006Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc.Inventors: Chris W. Patent number: 4996785Abstract: Light box assembly (10) has a removably mountable viewing panel (30), a cabinet (20), and a film media hanging means (40). Upon insertion, the viewing panel (30) is maintained in position by pressure applied by a stopping surface (70) a second surface opposite a camming surface (60) of an arm (62), along with a bottom panel positioner (72). Naturally resilient film (52) is inserted into a film receiving means (50). The film is guided along a guide surface (74) such that the leading edge of the film (52) follows the camming surface (60). Upon reaching film receiving bight (66), the operator releases the film. Due to the film's natural resiliency and the relative positions of the film receiving bight (66), the engaging edge (58), and an outer edge of the viewing panels' notch (32), the film is maintained in a secured position without the need of any moving parts. Such a configuration allows films of various thickness is to be secured.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1989Date of Patent: March 5, 1991Assignee: Picker International, Inc.Inventor: Chris W. Cicenas
