  • Patent number: 9790990
Abstract: Provided herein, is an apparatus that includes a fluid dynamic bearing defined in a gap between a stationary component and a rotatable component. The fluid dynamic bearing includes a first portion of the gap at an axial end of the fluid dynamic bearing, and a second portion of the gap. The first portion of the gap is narrower than the second portion of the gap. A groove in the fluid dynamic bearing on the stationary component or the rotatable component includes a portion of a predetermined width or a predetermined depth. The portion of the predetermined width or predetermined depth is selected based on the first gap or the second gap.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 17, 2013
Date of Patent: October 17, 2017
    Assignee: Seagate Technology LLC
Inventors: Hans Leuthold, Paco G. Flores, Chris Woldemar
  • Patent number: 9099903
Abstract: Provided herein is an apparatus, having a cylindrical structure extending from a base; a stator assembly having a stator ring and a plurality of stator teeth extending from an outer diameter of the stator ring; and a stator assembly support having a supporting means for supporting at least one of the stator ring or the plurality of stator teeth, wherein the stator assembly support is configured to dampen mechanical vibrations in the base.
    Type: Grant
