Publication number: 20090165787Abstract: A delivery apparatus for pressurized medical liquids has a primary reservoir that pressurizes a medical liquid therein to a driving pressure, a second reservoir having an inlet connected to receive pressurized liquid from the primary reservoir via a controllable intermediate valve, and an outlet for discharge of the received medical liquid via a controllable dosing valve. A pressure measuring unit measures the pressure in the secondary reservoir and a control unit controls the intermediate valve and the dosing valve by monitoring the operation of the intermediate valve and the dosing valve dependent on the measured pressure value from the pressure measuring unit. The control unit generates a status signal dependent on predetermined rules for measured pressure changes compared with calculated pressure changes.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 14, 2005Publication date: July 2, 2009Inventors: Christer Ahlmén, Mario Loncar

Publication number: 20080289628Abstract: In a method, ventilator and ventilator control unit for determining an end-expertorial lung volume (EELV) for a mechanically ventilated patient, a breathing gas is provided to the patient that has a first fixed N2/O2 gas composition, at least until the N2/O2 gas composition in air expired from the patient is constant. At least once, at a first predetermined point in time, the N2/O2 gas composition in the breathing gas is changed to a second fixed composition. The change in the N2/O2 gas composition exhaled by the patient for each breath is measured until a second point in time at which the level of expired O2 in at least two subsequent breadths is substantially stable. The measurement is made downstream of the expiratory tube of the ventilator. The total gas volume is determined for each breath, and the EELV of the patient's lungs is determined based on the change in O2 level between the first and second points in time.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2005Publication date: November 27, 2008Inventors: Magnus Hallback, Mario Loncar, Par Emtell, Christer Ahlmen

Patent number: 7347207Abstract: An anaesthetic device has a manual ventilation bag, a mechanical ventilator and a user interface for setting an operating mode, including mechanical ventilation via the mechanical ventilator and manual ventilation via the manual ventilation bag, and for setting parameter values for the operating mode that has been set. The anaesthetic device further has a remote control for wireless transmission of commands to the user interface. The user interface is adapted to carry out the commands from the remote control only when the anaesthetic device is set for manual ventilation.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2003Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Maquet Critical Care ABInventors: Christer Ahlmen, Mario Loncar, Petter Videbrink

Patent number: 7077136Abstract: An anesthetic delivery system has a delivery unit containing a carbon dioxide retaining element and a reversible action anesthetic absorber/desorber for releasably retaining therein at least a portion of a charge of anesthetic agent. An externally accessible first internal flow section in the delivery unit directs gas through the delivery unit first through the anesthetic absorber/desorber and then through the carbon dioxide retaining element, sequentially. An externally accessible second internal flow section directs gas through the delivery unit via the anesthetic absorber/desorber and bypassing the carbon dioxide retaining element.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2003Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: Maquet Critcal Care ABInventors: Christer Ahlmén, P{hacek over (a)}r Emtell, Mario Loncar

Patent number: 7077134Abstract: An anesthetic reflector has a housing internally containing two externally accessible gas channels and a filter of a material for releasable sorption of gas-borne anesthetic agent. The filter is movable between the gas channels to expose the same portion of the filter to the interior of each channel in turn.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2004Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: Maquet Critical Care ABInventor: Christer Ahlmen

Patent number: 6878133Abstract: A delivery apparatus for pressurized medical liquids has a primary reservoir and a primary pressurizing arrangement configured for removably pressurizing medical liquid in the primary reservoir to a delivery pressure. A secondary reservoir has an inlet connected via a valve to receive pressurized liquid from the primary reservoir. As secondary pressurizing arrangement is arranged for supplying a compensating pressure to the received pressurized liquid to maintain it at substantially the delivery pressure as pressure is reduced in the primary reservoir, particularly during refilling with medical liquid from an unpressurized source.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2002Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Maquet Critical Care ABInventors: Christer Ahlmen, Petter Videbrink

Patent number: 6761166Abstract: A device for reducing dead space in a ventilator system has a first tube connectable to the dead space in the ventilator system for producing a flow path for the transport of gas from dead space in the ventilator system, a suction device connected to the first tube for generating an adjustable negative pressure in the first tube, a second tube connectable to dead space in the ventilator system, for producing a flow path for the transport of gas to dead space in the ventilator system, a pump connected to the second tube for generating an adjustable positive pressure in the second tube, and a control unit which regulates the suction device and the pump. The suction device and the pump are formed by a first chamber and a second chamber, respectively, in an enclosure, separated by a gas-tight, moving partition. The control unit regulates the moving partition to regulate the suction device and the pump for achieving simpler and more reliable operation.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2003Date of Patent: July 13, 2004Assignee: Maquet Critical Care ABInventors: Christer Ahlmen, Magnus Hallback

Publication number: 20030199804Abstract: An anesthetic filter arrangement for the reflection of unused anesthetic agent in expiration gas back toward a patient has a filter housing having an interior portion arranged to provide an internal gas flow path for an inspiration gas and for an expiration gas passing alternately and in opposite directions through the housing and a filter element disposed in gas communication with the interior portion for adsorption of anesthetic agent from the expiration gas and subsequent desorption of the anesthetic agent into the inspiration gas. The arrangement further. has a thermal regulator operable to reduce thermal energy at the filter element by cooling one or both incoming gas and the filter element, and thereby vary one or both the adsorption and the desorption of the anesthetic agent.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2003Publication date: October 23, 2003Applicant: Siemens Elema ABInventors: Christer Ahlmen, Michael Ambrus, Mario Loncar
