  • Publication number: 20180249351
Abstract: Network nodes (102, 104), control node (100) and methods therein, for enabling establishment of a neighbour relation between a first network node (102) and a second network node (104) in a wireless network. The control node (100) sends (1:1) or distributes, to network nodes in the network including the first network node (702), a set of reference signals reserved for neighbour relation establishment. The second network node (104) transmits (1:3) one of the reserved reference signals which is then detected by a wireless device (D1) being served by the first network node (102) which then receives (1:4), from the wireless device (D1), a measurement report indicating the detected reference signal that is recognized by the first network node (102) as belonging to the set of reserved reference signals.

  • Publication number: 20180241441
Abstract: A receiver (10) featuring a distributed antenna combining system performs two stages of antenna combining. An antenna array (30) receives (102) L streams, or information flows, from UEs (20), and outputs antenna signals on N antenna ports. N parallel radio receivers (40) frequency convert (104) the N received signals to baseband. A first antenna combining circuit (50) applies (106) a relatively low-complexity form of antenna combining (e.g., MRC) to the N radio signals to generate K streams of virtual information. A second antenna combining circuit (60) applies (108) a relative high-complexity form of antenna combining (e.g., IRC) to the K virtual streams to generate L information streams. In one embodiment, antenna elements may have different polarization directions, and the first antenna combining circuit (50) generates two, differently-polarized virtual information streams for each UE (20) stream.

  • Patent number: 7466658
Abstract: Coded digital data symbols sent from a transmitter through a transmission channel of a communications network are received in a receiver. An estimate, represented by a first number of bits, of a sent data symbol is calculated, and a second number of bits, lower than the first number, is selected from the estimate to achieve a rounded estimate represented by the second number of bits. The rounded estimate is decoded to achieve a decoded data symbol. A target value for a block error rate of the transmission channel is received from the network; and the second number of bits is selected in dependence on the target block error rate value. Thus an optimal rounded estimate is provided in most situations, and the method can be performed with the limited computational resources of a terminal.

  • Patent number: 7440489
Abstract: A spread spectrum signal is processed by correlating the spread spectrum signal with a spreading sequence at a first plurality of correlation times to produce a first plurality of time-offset correlations. The first plurality of time-offset correlations is processed to produce a first symbol representation for a symbol. A first quality is determined for the first symbol representation. Responsive to the determined first quality, it is determined whether to further process the first symbol representation or to process a second symbol representation for the symbol generated from the spread spectrum signal. The first quality may be determined, for example, by decoding the first symbol representations to generate a decoding metric or error check indicator, such as a CRC result. The symbol representations may be generated and/or evaluated for quality in a serial fashion or a parallel fashion.

  • Patent number: 7382821
Abstract: A searcher uses an input signal, and for example, a matched filter to generate a first set of candidate paths. A selector uses the input signal and the first set of candidate paths to generate a second set of paths. The second set of paths is used to configure the fingers of a RAKE receiver. According to one aspect of the invention, the first set of candidate paths contains M paths, and the second stage uses M correlators to generate a set of M correlation values. The second stage uses the M correlation values to select N paths that are used to configure the N fingers of the RAKE receiver. According to another aspect of the invention, the first set of candidate paths contains M paths, and the second stage uses a multiple of M correlators to track the M paths and generate a set of M estimates. The second stage uses the M estimates to select N paths that are used to configure the N fingers of the RAKE receiver.

  • Patent number: 7379724
Abstract: A mobile communications terminal for use in a cellular communications system such as a CDMA system. The terminal includes an electronic circuit for receiving a wire-less communications signal carrying signal channels having processing means for extracting the signal channels. The electronic circuit is adapted to classify a type of interference affecting the communications quality by evaluating signals selected in the electronic circuit that are selected as signals having information for classifying a type of interference in one of at least two predetermined classes of interference.

  • Patent number: 7269421
Abstract: The uplink transmission timing from a mobile communications device is defined with reference to the downlink reception timing of signals from a particular reference cell. When that reference cell is removed from the active set, there is defined a virtual reference cell, the timing of which is defined with reference to one or more of the cells remaining in the active set, such that the timing of this new virtual reference cell corresponds to the timing of the previous reference cell. The timing of the uplink transmission from the user equipment are then defined with reference to the new virtual reference cell, in the conventional way. This has the advantage that, following a soft handover, it is not necessary to adjust the timing of uplink transmissions from the user equipment.

  • Patent number: 7197063
Abstract: Method and system are disclosed for providing advanced RAKE delay control in wireless communications systems. The RAKE delay control method and system of the invention is capable of tracking presently known paths over time and merging the tracking results with new path searcher results. The invention is particularly suitable for devices where the resources (e.g., computational load, power) available for detecting the multipath components are limited. The result is a resource efficient architecture for positioning the RAKE fingers to best extract the signal power available in the channel and to utilize the inherent diversity due to the multipath nature of the signal.
