  • Patent number: 8624749
Abstract: A controller suitable for identifying an abnormal operational condition in a bathing system is provided. The controller includes a memory unit adapted for storing measurements indicative of electrical currents drawn by the bathing system under normal operating conditions, each measurement being indicative of the electrical current being drawn by a respective bathing unit component in the bathing system. The controller also includes a processing unit for modifying the measurements stored in the memory unit and for detecting an abnormal operational condition associated with the bathing system at least in part on the basis of measurements stored on the memory unit. In specific implementations, sensing circuitry adapted for obtaining measurements associated to components, such as relays and fuses, is provided.

  • Patent number: 8612061
Abstract: A method and device for use in connection with a bathing system that comprises a heating module and a filtration system. The bathing system is adapted to receive power from an energy provider that supplies power in accordance with a power consumption profile. The method comprises receiving an input from a user conveying a desire that at least one of the heating module and the filtration system is operated in accordance with an energy savings mode, and causing the heating module and the filtration system to acquire an actuated state and a non-actuated state on a basis of a usage profile associated with the energy savings mode. The usage profile causes the at least one of the heating module and the filtration system to acquire the actuated state according to a schedule established at least in part on a basis of the power consumption profile.

  • Publication number: 20130166965
Abstract: A network-enabled controller for a bathing unit is provided. The controller includes a network interface and a memory storing operational setting information associated with the bathing unit. Through the network interface, the controller connects to a home network and registers and maintains an active communication link with a gateway accessed over a network external to the home network. In response to receipt of a status request originating from a remote client, the controller processes the status request and selectively transmits operational setting information stored in the memory to the remote client. A system for facilitating remote control and monitoring of network-enabled controllers for bathing units is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20130068631
Abstract: A sanitizing system is provided for use in a bathing unit system including a receptacle for holding water in which a halide salt has been dissolved and a circulating system for removing and returning water from and to the receptacle. The sanitizing system includes a sanitizing device having a housing configured to be positioned in fluid communication with the circulation system and an electrolytic cell positioned within the housing so that when power is applied to the electrolytic cell, the halide salt dissolved in water flowing through the housing is converted to an amount of free halogen. A controller controls an amount of power supplied to the electrolytic cell so as to control the amount of free halogen being generated. The amount of power supplied may be adjusted, for example, based on an amount of usage of the bathing unit system, a usage of a circulation pump and/or based on a water temperature. A user control interface for the sanitizing device is also provided.
