  • Patent number: 5098454
Abstract: A filtering cartridge, without asbestos, for the filtration of gases, especially hot and/or radio-active and/or corrosive gases. The cartridge comprises a substantially cylindrical, hollow body, closed at one of its ends and open at the other end, containing at least 50% by weight of alumina and/or zirconia. The body is obtained by molding in vacuo of a slip consisting essentially of fibers of alumina and/or zirconia having a diameter less than 20 .mu.m and length less than 25 mm, colloidal silica, at least one organic binding agent, at least one deflocculant, optionally, other fibers, and optionally sodium, drying the slip and heat treating the dried slip at a temperature sufficient to volatilize the organic binding agent and deflocculant.

  • Patent number: 4764305
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the conditioning of radioactive or toxic waste in epoxy resins and a polymerizable mixture with two liquid constituents usable in this process. This process consists of incorporating the waste into a polymerizable mixture incorporating at least one epoxy resin, pitch and at least one epoxy resin hardener and allowing the thus obtained mixture to harden.Generally the mixture comprises at least 50% by pitch weight and can be used for treating radioactive waste constituted by large objects and organic liquids.

  • Patent number: 4599196
Abstract: Process for the conditioning of waste, such as radioactive or toxic waste, whose acidity can inhibit polymerization reactions, e.g. waste containing cation exchange materials. This process consists of incorporating the waste into a liquid epoxy resin at ambient temperature and then bringing about the polymerization of the resin by means of a hardener, in order to obtain a solid block.A hardener containing at least one compound having at least one NH.sub.2 group in an adequate quantity for blocking the active sites of the cation exchange materials present in the waste or for neutralizing the acidity of the humid waste and for polymerizing the epoxy resin is used. This process can be more particularly used for conditioning resin beds used for the purification of the water of nuclear power stations.
