  • Patent number: 7556219
Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is provided, that is cost effective to use and manufacture and that includes a low count of component parts, allowing mission planners to use the UAVs in a disposable manner. The UAV includes an airframe having a central body and wings extending from the central body, defining an interior cavity. The airframe includes an upper and a lower shell, each configured of a unitary piece of plastic. The upper and lower shells have walls among them that define a fuel tank and a payload bay in a stacked configuration. The airframe can further include a payload cover configured to enclose the payload bay and to contribute to the central body of the airframe. A launch assembly is also provided. In a first configuration, a launch assembly is provided, that includes a container for housing multiple UAVs and a deployment mechanism that initiates rapid ejection of the UAVs from the container.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 22, 2005
Date of Patent: July 7, 2009
    Assignee: Swift Engineering, Inc.
Inventors: Mark A. Page, Doug McLarty, Adrian Fazio, Christian Durand, Bob Emerick

  • Patent number: 5854681
Abstract: According to an embodiment of the invention, the device comprises a unique optical path and a movable means providing for the selective passage of a light beam respectively through a transparent cell (4) containing a substance to be studied, at least one reference filter (6). The light reflected successively by one and the other of said two components is selectively applied to three filters (F 1-F3) which filter three wavelenghts selected as a function of the substance to be analyzed. Three detectors (D1-D3) are used to measure the successive light intensities which have gone through each of the filters, and from the measures obtained, it is possible to determine a correction coefficient before calculating a characteristic of the substance contained in the transparent cell.

  • Patent number: 5680220
Abstract: A first embodiment of the invention includes a light source (1) lighting two parallel optical branches (b1, b2) controlled respectively by two optical shutters (4, 6), one comprising a transparent cell (3) containing a substance to be studied, and the other being used to divert the light from the source. The light coming successively from one and from the other branch is applied selectively to three color filters (F1-F3) filtering three wavelengths selected according to the substance to be studied. The successive luminous intensities which have crossed each of the filters are measured through three detectors (D1 to D3) and the measurings are combined by means of a control (0). Analogous measuring sequences may be achieved with an embodiment comprising three light sources and a single detector. The device can be used for determination of the pH value of a substance.
