    Abstract: The present invention provides strategies for mitigating the deleterious effects of differential thermal expansion in composite panel structures. The principles of the present invention are particularly useful in the field of concentrating solar power. The principles of the present invention can be used in CSP applications to make composite mirror panel structures with improved characteristics for accommodating differential thermal expansion between components of the composite. Significantly, the composite mirrors structures can still be securely attached to other heliostat components such as a drive mechanism while still having the ability to accommodate differential thermal expansion between the skins of a composite mirror panel helps to limit energy losses due to slope errors.

    Abstract: A method of sealing a peelable lid (2) to a flange (4) provided within a metal can body (1) which involves inserting an induction coil (6) into the can body to primarily heat the sealing surface (5) of the flange, while keeping the exterior wall of the can relatively cool to avoid tin reflow and decoration degradation of the exterior wall. The induction coil is subsequently removed from the can body and a peelable lid applied to the flange, whereby residual heat in the flange aids the sealing of the lid to the flange, e.g. by allowing activation of a bonding material.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for reuse of battery pack-side current and voltage sensing are disclosed. By reusing elements within a battery pack, a battery field effect transistor (FET) within a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) may be eliminated or at least bypassed. In a first aspect, a current mirror is coupled to a charge protection circuit in the battery pack to capture a sensed current. Likewise, a voltage sensor captures a voltage level for a charging path. Current and voltage are output to the PMIC for use in regulating a buck charger. In a second aspect, current data and voltage data are collected and digitized before being sent to the PMIC for use in regulating the buck charger.

The plurality of USB device plugs can be configured individually with different data pin combinations to concurrently support different device clients. By providing the USB split cable, it is possible to support point-to-multipoint USB connection via the plurality of USB device plugs without a USB hub, thus improving mobility of the USB host while reducing costs and power consumption associated with the USB hub.

    Abstract: An application running in a container is able to access files stored on disk via normal file system calls, but in a manner that remains isolated from applications and processes in other containers. In one aspect, a namespace virtualization component is coupled with a copy-on-write component. When an isolated application is accessing a file stored on disk in a read-only manner, the namespace virtualization component and copy-on-write component grant access to the file. But, if the application requests to modify the file, the copy-on-write component intercepts the I/O and effectively creates a copy of the file in a different storage location on disk. The namespace virtualization component is then responsible for hiding the true location of the copy of the file, via namespace mapping.

    Abstract: In illustrative modes of practice, heliostat devices integrate light reflecting panels with a composite supporting structure that helps to provide the resultant assembly with structural integrity and stiffness. Light reflecting panels are coupled to the supporting, composite structure by a plurality of flexible connecting elements. Advantageously, the composite approach of the present invention effectively separates structural and thermal compensation functions. Specifically, the composite support structure helps to provide desired structural properties. In the meantime, the flexible connecting elements couple the top, light reflecting panel to the support structure in a manner that helps to isolate the top, light reflecting panel from thermal stresses that otherwise could cause undue slope errors.

    Abstract: Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable type detection and control techniques are disclosed. In an exemplary aspect, a device connected to a cable detects whether the cable is a legacy cable (i.e., a Type-A to Type-C cable). If the cable is a legacy cable, the device determines an appropriate current to draw based on whether the cable is compliant with the USB Type-C specification or non-compliant. Additional exemplary aspects of the present disclosure determine whether a connector adaptor has been put on a legacy cable and determines an appropriate current to draw based on the capabilities of the legacy cable. Still further aspects of the present disclosure evaluate not only the cable to see if the cable limits the current draw, but also evaluate a device at a distal end of the cable to verify if and how current may be drawn by such remote device from a mobile terminal.

In a particularly contemplated aspect, a second charger is tied to a first charger at a system power node. The system power node is further tied to a top port of the second charger. A bottom port of the second charger is tied to a top port of the first charger. A bottom port of the first charger is tied to the battery of the mobile terminal. The fuel gauge circuitry may sense battery current using a known ON resistance of a field effect transistor (FET) of the first charger.

    Abstract: Over-voltage protection systems and methods are disclosed. In one aspect, a biasing circuit is added to a pre-existing clamp required by the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Type-C specification at a configuration control (CC) pin. The biasing circuit turns the pre-existing clamp into an adjustable clamp that dynamically adjusts to over-voltage conditions. In an exemplary aspect, the biasing circuit may include a biasing field effect transistor (FET) and a pair of switches that selectively couple the pre-existing clamp and the biasing FET to fixed voltages such that the CC pin is maintained at an acceptable voltage. In another exemplary aspect, the biasing circuit may omit the biasing FET and rely on two switches that selectively couple the pre-existing clamp to fixed voltages such that the CC pin is maintained at an acceptable voltage.

The client may request a read lease which allows the client to cache the directory metadata locally and service requests received from the same application which originally requested the directory metadata using the cache. In addition, the client may also request a handle lease which allows a client to delay the closing of a directory handle and allow the handle to be reused to service subsequent directory metadata requests from the same or a different application. A client may also request a write lease which allows an application on the client to modify the directory metadata, such as by creating or deleting new files in the directory, or changing their attributes, and cache those changes.
