  • Patent number: 6262205
Abstract: The process of curing a radical-polymerizable multicomponent mixture containing an olefinically-unsaturated compound with ambient air by adding to the mixture an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl hydrazone of an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic aldehyde or ketone which forms a hydroperoxide as an initiator for curing the mixture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 13, 1992
Date of Patent: July 17, 2001
    Assignee: Henkel Kommanditgesellschaft auf Aktien
Inventors: Thomas Huver, Thomas Moeller, Wolfgang Klauck, Christian Nicolaisen
  • Patent number: 6096848
Abstract: Biscyanoacrylates in solution are prepared by reacting 2-cyanoacrylic acids or their alkyl esters with diols in the presence of sulfonic acids as catalysts. The reaction mixture is processed by substituting an aliphatic solvent for the aromatic solvent and is then subjected twice to fractional crystallization. The thus obtained biscyanoacrylates are very pure. They are therefore useful for producing storage stable cyanoacrylate adhesives. Their admixture increases the thermal resistance of the adhesives, which is particularly important in the case of electric and electronic components.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 1, 2000
    Assignee: Henkel Kommanditgesellschaft auf Aktien

  • Patent number: 5561198
Abstract: An activator for cyanoacrylate adhesives based on N,N-dialkyl aniline derivatives is provided. The activators are characterized by a molecular weight of more than 200 and by at most 3 carbon atoms for both N,N-dialkyl substituents together. Also provided are methods of production and use of the activator and to the combination product of the activator and the cyanoacrylate adhesive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 1995
Date of Patent: October 1, 1996

Inventors: Thomas Huver, Christian Nicolaisen, Susanne Camp
  • Patent number: 5478427
Abstract: New contact adhesives which are designed as multifunctional contact reactive adhesives and which may be used in a multistage curing process, for example for bonding wood, plastic moldings, metals and the like, are provided. One of the functional substituents of the adhesive composition is characterized by the presence of an olefinic double bond which is accessible to radical reaction initiation. The other functional substituent is an isocyanate group which reacts off, e.g. under the effect of moisture. These different reaction mechanisms enable the reactive contact adhesive to be cured in stages, e.g. by forming contact-sensitive adhesive layers on hard surfaces in a first stage, subsequently fitting the correspondingly coated surfaces together and firmly bonding them together in a final stage, e.g. under the effect of atmospheric moisture. Also provided is a process for the production of the new reactive contact adhesives.

  • Patent number: 5434230
Abstract: Compositions containing a radical-polymerizable olefinically unsaturated compound and a hydrazone of an aromatic aldehyde or ketone are provided. Also provided are methods for the production of such compositions and methods for the use of such compositions as an adhesive and sealing compound or its use for the coating and production of plastic moldings. The compositions polymerize radically at room temperature upon exposure to ambient air.

  • Patent number: 5057551
Abstract: Adhesives containing some bifunctional and some at least trifunctional epoxide compounds, photoinitiators, and acrylates of methacrylates corresponding to general formulaCH.sub.2 =C(R.sup.1)-CO-(OC.sub.m H.sub.2m).sub.n -OR.sup.2in which R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl and R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbon radical containing a cationically cleavable oxacycloalkyl or oxacycloalkenyl group, continue to harden in darkness after their hardening has been photoinitiated, and thus can produce strong bonds between opaque substrates, when the substrates are coated with the adhesives, the adhesive coatings are exposed to light to initiate the hardening, and the coated substrates are pressed together within a short interval before the hardening of the photoinitiated adhesives advances to the gel point.
