Patent number: 8783021Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine is proposed, in whose exhaust gas zone a particle filter is disposed, which is cyclically loaded with particles and thermally regenerated, as well as an apparatus for the implementation of the method, which prevents thermal overload of the particle filter after turning off the internal combustion engine. A test is made when the internal combustion engine is turned off to determine whether an exothermal reaction takes place. Provided that an exothermal reaction takes place in the particle filter, a butterfly valve is closed, which prevents exhaust gas flow through the particle filter and, if the circumstances arise, a resulting oxygenation ingress in the particle filter.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2009Date of Patent: July 22, 2014Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Christian Post, Andreas Nagel

Patent number: 8468799Abstract: The invention concerns a procedure and a device for controlling an air supply system of a combustion engine with an exhaust gas system and an exhaust gas purification system with a particle filter in the exhaust gas system, whereby a boost pressure of an air supply current is controlled or can be controlled in the air supply system over a combustion air supply duct with the aid if a throttle valve and/or an exhaust gas recirculation between the exhaust gas system and the combustion air supply duct. Regarding the procedure it is provided according to the invention, that the air supply current is determined directly before or during a regeneration of the particle filter by different means with the aid of signals from measuring devices that are arranged in the air supply system and/or sensors that are arranged in the exhaust gas system and that the results are compared to each other.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2008Date of Patent: June 25, 2013Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Christian Post, Oliver Zink, Andreas Nagel

Patent number: 7963107Abstract: A procedure for the operation of an internal combustion engine is disclosed, in whose exhaust gas area a particle filter is arranged which is freed from the stored particles during a regeneration. A measure for a load of the combustion engine is compared to a load threshold value. An overrun cut-off, at which the fuel metering is completely suppressed, is carried out if the measure for the load falls below the load threshold value and if the engine speed of the combustion engine lies above an engine speed threshold value. The load threshold value that has been determined to a value higher than zero is further dependant on the particle filter's regeneration signal. The procedure aims to prevent the overheating of the particle filter during its regeneration.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2007Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Ralf Wirth, Dirk Samuelsen, Christian Post, Andre Wiedersberg

Publication number: 20100242444Abstract: This paper suggests a procedure for the operation of an internal combustion engine, which has a particle filter arrayed to its emission system, which, during regeneration, is cleansed of its stored particles. This also describes the procedure's comparison of the engine's amount of a load to the load threshold value. It also has a throttle cut-off, which suppresses the fuel supply entirely when the engine's amount of a load is lower than the load threshold value and the engine's revolutions are higher the revolution threshold value. The set load threshold value above null is further dependant on the particle filter's regeneration signal. These procedures, based in this invention, are to prevent the overheating of the particle filter during its regeneration.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2007Publication date: September 30, 2010Applicant: Robert Bosch GMBHInventors: Ralf Wirth, Dirk Samuelsen, Christian Post, Andre Wiedersberg

Publication number: 20080209892Abstract: The invention concerns a method for the closed-loop control of the regeneration of a particle filter in the exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine, wherein the burn-off of particles in the particle filter during a regeneration process is controlled by a closed-loop control of the oxygen content of the exhaust gas and/or wherein the temperature of the exhaust gas or of at least one component of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system is controlled in a closed loop. Provision is thereby made for the corrective controller actions for the closed-loop control of the oxygen content and/or the temperature of components of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system to take place only during stable combustion conditions of the internal combustion engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 29, 2008Publication date: September 4, 2008Applicant: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Christian POST, Stefan Motz

Publication number: 20070204598Abstract: The invention concerns a procedure to control a regeneration of a particle filter in an exhaust gas purification system of a combustion engine, at which combustion air inlet is supplied via a combustion velocity supply duct with a butterfly valve and at which exhaust is recycled in an exhaust duct via an exhaust gas recirculation and/or a low pressure-exhaust gas recirculation, by which exhaust can be supplied to the combustion velocity supply duct. If the gearings of the butterfly valve and the exhaust gas recirculation and/or the low pressure-exhaust gas recirculation are conducted in a pre-defined sequence, it can be reached, that the particle filter is protected from damages because of overheating and at the same time the ease and convenience when driving is not affected.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2007Publication date: September 6, 2007Applicant: Robert Bosch GMBHInventors: Ralf Wirth, Dirk Samuelsen, Stefan Forthmann, Werner Christl, Carsten Becker, Andreas Fritsch, Stefan Motz, Tobias Pfister, Christian Post, Andreas Nagel
