    Abstract: In various examples, there is provided a computer-implemented method for writing transaction log entries to a transaction log for a database system. At least part of the database system is configured to be executed within a trusted execution environment. The transaction log is stored outside of the trusted execution environment. The method maintains a first secure count representing a number of transaction log entries which have been written to the transaction log for transactions which have been committed to the database and writes a transaction log entry to the transaction log. In other examples, there is also provided is a computer-implemented method for restoring a database system using transaction log entries received from the transaction log and a current value of the first secure count.

    Abstract: Molding material mixes that contain a polyurethane binder based on phenolic resins of the benzyl ether type and polyisocyanates are characterized by the inclusion of a polybutadiene derivative. In one case, the polybutadiene derivative has epoxide groups and hydroxyl groups. In another case, the polybutadiene derivative has succinic acid anhydride groups. Molds, cores and risers are produced using these molding material mixes. Inclusion of the polybutadiene derivatives results in a reduction of sand adhesions in the molding process.

    Abstract: A release agent is disclosed for use with an organic binder system used in metal casting. The binder system has a Part I component including an epoxy resin and a free radical initiator and a Part II component having an epoxy resin and an acrylate, where the Part I and Part II components are kept separate until the time of use. The release agent will typically have a molecular weight in the range of 150 to 160, with eight to ten carbon atoms. Two examples of the epoxide are pinene oxide and decene-1 oxide, each of which is effective as an internal release agent when present in the binder for a cold box process in the range of about 0.15% to about 1% of the total weight of the Part I and Part II components.

    Abstract: Benzyl ether-type phenolic resins are useful in either a phenolic resin polyurethane cold-box (PUCB) process or a phenolic resin polyurethane no-bake (PUNB) process. The benzyl ether-type phenolic resins contain at least one formaldehyde scavenger in the form of a beta-dicarbonyl compound, and an alpha-carbonyl-carboxyl compound, particularly glyoxylic acid, binders based on these phenolic resins, and isocyanate compounds having at least two isocyanate groups. The resins having the inventive concept exhibit low free formaldehyde content. The inventive concept extends to molding material blends containing the binder, and a method for producing cores, molds or risers.

    Abstract: Defects can arise in a product of a metal casting process from reactions occurring at a metal-mold interface. A method that reduces the defects uses an organic binder system by introducing a separate third component to a two-part polyurethane-based binder system used in the cold box or no bake process. The third part is added only after the first two parts are mixed with a refractory molding material to provide a shapeable foundry mix. The third part is an alkyl silicate, such as tetraethyl orthosilicate (“TEOS”), an alkyl orthoformate, such as trimethyl orthoformate (TMOF) or triethyl orthoformate (TEOF), or combinations thereof.

    Abstract: An organic binder system is mixed with molding material for sand casting in the metals industry. The organic binder system has three parts, the first two of which are conventional and are used in the cold box or no bake process. The third part, which is combined with the first two parts at the time of use, contains at least an alkyl silicate and, optionally, a bipodal aminosilane. In some embodiments, an amount of hydrofluoric acid is included in one or both of the first two parts. Use of the organic binder system provides improved tensile strength in the mold, especially in high relative humidity.
