  • Patent number: 8547917
Abstract: A node of a radio access network includes a transceiver and a radio resource control unit. The transceiver is configured to facilitate communication with plural wireless terminals over a radio interface including transmissions on an uplink from the wireless terminals to the node and transmissions on a downlink from the node to the wireless terminals. The radio resource control unit configured to perform radio resource control functionality including layer three (L3) signaling between the node and the wireless terminals. The radio resource control unit includes an uplink scheduler configured to predict transmission of an uplink L3 message from the wireless terminals to the node and, for a particular wireless terminal, to generate, for transmission on the downlink, a grant message which in accordance with the prediction prioritizes a predicted L3 message of the particular wireless terminal relative to messages of others of the plural wireless terminals.

  • Patent number: 8488551
Abstract: A method for sending buffer status information includes checking if a quality of service (QoS) parameter is defined for a first logical channel and at least one condition of the set of predetermined conditions associated with a logical channel group is fulfilled. If the QoS parameter is defined and at least one condition of the set is fulfilled, the method includes setting a number of bits in a media access control header according to a first semantic. The bits carry buffer status information, and the first semantic—is based on the QoS parameter of the first logical channel. Otherwise, the method includes setting the number of bits carrying the buffer status information according to a second semantic that is based on an amount of data available for transmission across the logical channel group.

  • Patent number: 8483735
Abstract: Various schedulers are disclosed for use within a network node of a radio access network. A scheduler can be configured to divide a defined frequency bandwidth into a plurality of bandwidth pipes. The scheduler then develops sets of nodes that are candidates for using corresponding ones of the bandwidth pipes to communicate with the network node during a communication time interval. At least one of the sets contains a plurality of candidate nodes. The scheduler operates separate parallel processes that are arranged for computing metrics for the sets of nodes. The scheduler assigns one of the nodes in each set of nodes to the corresponding bandwidth pipe in response to the computed metrics. The scheduler may divide the defined frequency bandwidth into a plurality of non-overlapping bandwidth pipes so that metrics for candidate nodes in one of the sets can be computed independently from candidate nodes in another one of the sets.

  • Patent number: 8412182
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, the uplink transmission of measurement reports may be scheduled based on an estimated time of when a measurement report will be ready for transmission. The estimated time may be calculated at a base station or user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20130051359
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and arrangement for improving predictability of inter-cell interference in wireless communication systems. A first network radio entity (104, 116) receives (1002) data and estimates (1004) an amount of frequency resources needed to transmit the data. A resource limitation condition is determined (1006) and applied when scheduling (1008) the data for transmission. The resource limitation condition prolongs a time needed to transmit the data by at least one transmission time interval as compared to the time needed to transmit the data using a maximum amount of frequency resources available per scheduling occasion. The data is scheduled within a scheduling time interval that depends on the resource limitation condition and on the estimated amount of frequency resources and that extends over at least two scheduling occasions, and then transmitted (1010) by the first network radio entity (104, 116) on the estimated amount of frequency resources.

  • Publication number: 20120201149
Abstract: Sounding reference signals transmitted in one cell, and which use a same base sequence as sounding reference signals transmitted in a neighboring cell, may cause interference. Detection of signal energy on unallocated sounding resources in a cell can be used when allocating additional sounding resources in that cell. Coordination among base stations, e.g., eNodeBs, can be performed to mitigate potential sounding reference signal interference.

  • Patent number: 8170575
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, a base station adaptively schedule CQI reports form mobile stations. By adaptively prioritizing the CQI report from the mobile station against the uplink traffic and control data, the CQI reporting rate avoids unnecessary overhead in the uplink while maintaining good performance. The CQI reports are requested in response to a calculated weighting factor which is based on channel coherence time that can be estimated by the base station. The adaptivity in the CQI reporting allows achieving an optimal tradeoff between uplink traffic data and downlink control feedback signaling.

  • Patent number: 6334050
Abstract: An arrangement for controlling and adjusting the output power of radio frequency signals sent from a radio unit (100) and the input power of radio frequency signals received by the radio unit. Variations in the amplification/attenuation of transmitter-and-receiver units are simultaneously compensated for in both the transmitter part and the receiver part of the units so that the amplification will remain the same irrespective of these variations in operation. A detector signal (Udet) is compared with a reference signal (Uref) by a difference amplifier (112), which generates a difference signal (Ue). The detector signal (Udet) is measured by a power sensing means provided in the vicinity of an antenna (113), and corresponds to the power at which radio frequency signals are transmitted. The reference signal (Uref) corresponds to a desired power of transmitted radio frequency signals.
