Publication number: 20240049315Abstract: First user equipment (UE) exchanges at least a portion of data to be transmitted to a communication network with a second UE on a side channel. The UEs then send the data to the network at increased transmission power by using transmit antennas of both the first and second UEs, instead of just those of the first UE. In some cases, the second UE may transmit a variation of the data sent by the first UE to perform transmit diversity and improve signal-to-noise ratio. To avoid unintended beamforming of the transmissions, the network may mix signals (e.g., having a same symbol) received at the same time period but at different sub-carriers, or mix the signals received at different time periods but at the same sub-carrier. The network may notify the UEs of a phase correction value based on the signals, and the UEs may adjust using the phase correction value.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2023Publication date: February 8, 2024Inventors: Firouz Behnamfar, Ahmed Moustafa, Ahmed Mostafa Ali Soliman, Sree Ram Kodali, Christian W. Patent number: 11843997Abstract: A device-to-device (D2D) communication application is stored in a memory of a first device, and has an application identifier (ApplicationID) configured to enable D2D communication between two or more devices in proximity. The first device is configured with a user identifier (UserID). A group associated with the D2D communication application can then be established, which includes the first device and one or more second devices, each having the D2D communication capability and an associated UserID, each of the devices exchanging their ApplicationID and UserID with other devices to establish the group. A role in the group is assigned to each device of the first device and one or more second devices, which defines functions for each device to establish the D2D communications. Based on the role of each device, a set of resources from the network are allocated to enable the D2D communication on the D2D communication channel.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2021Date of Patent: December 12, 2023Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sudeep Manithara Vamanan, Yu-Ting Yu, Biljana Badic, Christian W. Publication number: 20230089794Abstract: An electronic device may include wireless circuitry with a radio that conveys wireless data with a wireless base station using antennas according to a communication schedule and that performs sensing using the antennas. The sensing may involve transmission of sensing signals and reception of reflected signals during sensing periods. Control circuitry may adjust timing of the sensing periods, based on network configuration information and the current sensing requirements of the device, to align with scheduled inactive times for the radio. In this way, the radio may perform radio-frequency sensing for use in adjusting wireless transmissions to satisfy radio-frequency exposure requirements without substantially disrupting wireless data communications.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2022Publication date: March 23, 2023Inventors: Firouz Behnamfar, Christian W. Publication number: 20230085972Abstract: An electronic device may include wireless circuitry that detects the location of external objects. A signal generator may concurrently transmit different radio-frequency ranging signals over two or more transmit antennas. The ranging signals may include waveforms with time-varying frequencies, where each waveform includes frequencies that are non-overlapping with the frequencies of each of the other waveforms at any given time. Antennas may receive reflected versions of the ranging signals and a processor may process the reflected versions of the ranging signals to identify the location of the external objects. This may prevent interference between the ranging signals and may significantly reduce the latency of location detection relative to examples where the ranging signals are transmitted by different transmit antennas in series.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2022Publication date: March 23, 2023Inventors: Firouz Behnamfar, Christian W Mucke, Ayman F Naguib

Publication number: 20230093120Abstract: The present application relates to synchronization signal transmission using multiple beams. In an example, a network node may support M beams covering M areas. However, only K<M beams may be used at any time for transmission of synchronization signals. Accordingly, the network node cycles through the K beams allocated to synchronization signal transmission, whereby a synchronization signal is transmitted on K spatially-multiplexed and simultaneously-active beams to reach K coverage areas during a first time period, then next K coverage areas during a second time period, and so on until all of the M coverage areas are reached to restart the cycle. A UE is located in only one coverage area, and would see the synchronization signal beam once during a period of time equal to the time needed to cycle through the M coverage areas.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2022Publication date: March 23, 2023Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Idan Bar-Sade, Ajay Panchal, Christian W. Patent number: 11564169Abstract: An interface circuit in a device, e.g., an access point, may perform link adaptation. During operation, the interface circuit may provide a wake-up frame, e.g., a LP-WUR packet, associated with a channel in a band of frequencies, where the wake-up frame is intended for a wake-up radio in a recipient device. Then, the interface circuit may receive, from the recipient device, feedback information associated with a second channel in a second band of frequencies, where the feedback information is associated with a main radio in the recipient device. Based at least in part on the feedback information, the interface circuit may estimate one or more communication metrics associated with the channel in the band of frequencies. Moreover, based at least in part on the one or more communication metrics, the interface circuit may determine a data rate for use in communication via the channel in the band of frequencies.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2018Date of Patent: January 24, 2023Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Guoqing Li, Oren Shani, Yong Liu, Xiaowen Wang, Yoel Boger, Christiaan A.
