  • Patent number: 10353970
Abstract: A previously-browsed information adaptive filter unit and a method of operating the adaptive filter unit are disclosed. In one embodiment, the previously-browsed information adaptive filter unit can be integrated into a web browser as a factory-spec filter, as an aftermarket application software, or as a semiconductor chip. The previously-browsed information adaptive filter unit is capable of identifying, queuing, replacing, and/or substituting a user's previously-browsed information from a website with a fresh content, which the user has not yet interacted with from the website. The previously-browsed information adaptive filter unit may be integrated into a desktop or laptop web browser, or into a handheld mobile web browser.

  • Patent number: 9137917
Abstract: One or more apparatuses and methods are disclosed for data entry from a removable portable device cover which are configured to cover, surround, and/or encapsulate at least a portion of an exterior shell of a portable electronic device. In one embodiment of the invention, a physical keyboard is operatively connected and/or attached to a removable portable device frame of the removable portable device cover, wherein the removable portable device frame is designed to fit a portable electronic device. In some embodiments of the invention, the operative connection and/or attachment of a physical keyboard to a removable portable frame may be accomplished by using straps, connector ports, and/or wireless protocols. Furthermore, a physical keyboard operatively connected and/or attached to the removable portable device frame may be a foldable physical keyboard which enables easy touch-typing for a user if the foldable physical keyboard is fully expanded.

  • Patent number: 8948790
Abstract: Various embodiments of an apparatus and a method prevent a dangerous user behavior with a mobile communication device by embedding RFID tags in a vehicle's interior space and by interrogating those embedded RFID tags with an integrated RFID tag reader in the mobile communication device. In one embodiment of the invention, the vehicle's interior space is divided into multiple “zones,” at least one of which is defined as a “driving lock” zone. A vehicle interior zone is identifiable with an embedded RFID tag with a particular tag readable range, which only extends to the boundary of that particular zone. Therefore, a mobile communication device with an integrated RFID tag reader can recognize which zone the mobile communication device is currently in by accessing an RFID tag embedded nearby, and then proceed to enable the driving lock on the mobile communication device, if necessary.

  • Patent number: 8922493
Abstract: The present invention discloses one or more embodiments of a mobile device capable of automatic enablement of a rear-face data entry. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the mobile device can automatically detect and determine that a rear-face data entry interface is either facing up or facing the user's line of sight, which prompts activation of the rear-face data interface for immediate enablement of data entry (e.g. typing). If the rear-face data entry interface is either facing down or away from the user's line of sight, the mobile device disables the rear-face data interface for data entry to minimize accidental and undesirable data entry via the rear-face data interface. The preferred embodiment of the invention also incorporates a primary frontal touch-screen display, a secondary rear touch-screen display, a QWERTY keyboard, and display elevation guards on both displays.

  • Patent number: 8898771
Abstract: One or more embodiments of an apparatus and a method prevent a dangerous user behavior with a mobile communication device with an integrated pedometer. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the integrated pedometer comprises a pedometer sensor and an associated software executed on a CPU and a memory unit of the mobile communication device, wherein the pedometer sensor is configured to detect a user's movements and vibrations to determine whether the user is walking or jogging based on a real-time determination from a sensor threshold value and an operation of the associated software. If the integrated pedometer determines that the user is currently walking or jogging, the associated software can dynamically activate a “walking lock” or a “jogging lock,” which prevents, prohibits, and/or limits the usage of certain device functions as long as the user is determined to be walking or jogging by the integrated pedometer.

  • Patent number: 8858329
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for a game interface on a wireless communication device with projector capability. In one example, an apparatus has an integrated projector lens on a casing of a wireless communication device and a dedicated game interface with a directional control and a fire button. In another example, an apparatus has a dedicated game interface with at least one directional control, a fire button, and a projector body with a projector lens which can extend from, retract to, or dock with a casing of a wireless communication device. Furthermore, this apparatus may include a novel hardware and/or software module which can invert, adjust, and/or re-orient a desired image before a corrected orientation of the desired image is projected from the integrated projector lens, depending on frontal, rear, or another surface usage of the wireless communication device by the user.

  • Patent number: 8322863
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are disclosed for automated projection image adjustments for a portable projection device. In one embodiment of the invention, the apparatus periodically polls a tilt sensor inside the portable projection device and uses the tilt sensor reading as a key to a lookup table which stores pre-computed visual distortion adjustment values. Furthermore, the apparatus can also poll a distance measurement sensor to measure a distance between a projector lens and a presumed projection surface periodically. The measured distance value can also be used as an additional parameter to the key for the lookup table to retrieve appropriate visual distortion adjustment values which are pre-computed and stored in the lookup table. The fast pre-computed adjustment value retrieval without real-time computation of graphical transformations to correct the visual distortions minimizes processor load, energy consumption, and processing delays for projection image corrections.
