  • Patent number: 4963753
Abstract: An intensifying screen is disclosed containing a phosphor composition comprised of monoclinic crystals of a titanium activated hafnia phosphor host containing gadolinium ions to reduce afterglow. A phosphor composition in which zirconia is at least partially substituted for hafnia is also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 16, 1989
Date of Patent: October 16, 1990
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company

  • Patent number: 4311487
Abstract: A method for the recrystallization of activated rare-earth oxyhalide phosphors is disclosed. The method comprises recrystallizing the phosphor by firing a phosphor-flux mixture in an inert atmosphere. The phosphor-flux is substantially homogeneous and the flux contains substantially dehydrated magnesium halide. One particularly preferred phosphor made by the method is a lanthanum oxychloride phosphor coactivated with bismuth and ytterbium. This phosphor made by the present method has high speed and low afterglow.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 19, 1982
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: George W. Luckey, Christine M. Towers
