Patent number: 8593993Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for learning call routing information in a communication system. A switching architecture is presented. The switch may be implemented in a centralized architecture or a distributed architecture. In addition, the switch may be implemented in a variety of networks such as a circuit-switched network or a packet-switched network. The switch includes a policy server and a self-learning application server. The policy server includes routing information for routing calls across the switch. The routes for incoming and outgoing calls are analyzed as they pass through the switch. The self-learning application server uses artificial intelligence techniques and caching algorithms to learn new more-efficient routing paths or initial routing paths based on the incoming and outgoing calls. The self-learning application server then updates the policy server with the new learned routes.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2012Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: AT&T Intellecutal Property II, L.P.Inventors: Christine Yu-sha Clou Clark, Sekar Ganesan, Leticia Garcia Johnson, Richard J Sullivan

Publication number: 20070082717Abstract: A dual prompting device for incoming call of a mobile phone is provided. When a mobile phone receives an incoming signal, prompting ring or music of an incoming call not only can be sent out by a mobile phone's own speaker but also can be sent out by an externally wired speaker that placed in an earpiece wire. This device can allow people who always place their mobile phones in bags, in particular of females, to avoid mishearing of an incoming ring or music so that to avoid missing a phone call, because mobile phones are placed in bags.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 12, 2005Publication date: April 12, 2007Applicant: Inventec CorporationInventors: Kuo-Chih Lee, Christine Yu

Patent number: 6763017Abstract: A Multiservice Access Concentrator (MAC) receives a called number and matches the number against a destination-pattern index. A logical group of single access telephone numbers are associated to at least one voice port, wherein a logical group of candidate voice ports are formed. The logical group of candidate voice ports are sorted to form a sorted table. The sorting comprises using a prioritized sort criteria, wherein the sort criteria comprises sorting by explicit preference, longest telephone number match metric, local voice ports taking priority over network voice ports, administrative metrics of the network voice ports, time-of-last-use timestamp, and predefined order. Hunting for a voice port among a logical group of candidate voice ports is performed, wherein the logical group of candidate voice ports is distributed across at least one voice over packet-data-network system (VOPS).Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1998Date of Patent: July 13, 2004Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Patrik Buckingham, Wing-Kuen Chung, Cherng-Daw Hwang, Christine Yu

Patent number: 6657970Abstract: A method and apparatus for link state determination in voice over frame-relay networks. In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for determining link state for permanent calls in an FRF.11 voice over data network at the virtual voice channel level. This is a capability not present in FRF.11, which includes a management mechanism for determining link state of virtual circuits, but no mechanism for determining link state of virtual channels. One embodiment uses a standard FRF.11 signaling frame with a status indicator bit to signal that a channel is a primary operative channel or an alternate operative channel. The signaling frames are sent end to end through the network by an initiator device along a primary data path and all alternate data paths. If a primary or alternate path is operative, a reciprocator device returns the signaling frame along the operative path. The initiator determines by receipt or non-receipt of the signaling frames which paths are operative at any time.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1999Date of Patent: December 2, 2003Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Patrik Buckingham, Michael Tasker, Christine Yu
