Patent number: 8048557Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved electrochemical device, such as a primary cell battery, that is capable of being manufactured on the miniature-level (e.g., a size amenable to being used in an injectable medical apparatus). An exemplary electrochemical device comprises a header comprising a pin extending into an electrode space defined by the header and a device case. The pin also extends into a first electrode and is configured to be the current collector of the device. An electrode pressure plate is disposed adjacent a second electrode, and a pressure maintaining spring interfaces with the pressure plate and a device base. The pressure maintaining spring is configured to expand as the electrochemical device discharges, thereby maintaining a contact pressure within the device.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2008Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: EaglePicher Energy Products CorporationInventor: Christo Brand

Patent number: 8044814Abstract: The invention provides a system and battery including a state-of-charge indicator (SOCI) to monitor and display the amount of charge within the battery. The SOCI is capable of operating in a hibernate mode, an active mode, and/or a sleep mode. The battery may be manufactured, shipped and/or stored with the SOCI operating in a power-saving hibernate mode. The SOCI may exit the hibernate mode and begin operating in active mode if a physical key connected to the battery is removed. In addition, the SOCI may operate in a sleep mode while the battery is not being used to conserve power. Furthermore, the invention provides a method of making a battery including a SOCI to monitor and display the state of charge of the battery.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2010Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: EaglePicher Energy Products CorporationInventors: Gregg C. Publication number: 20050196667Abstract: A prismatic cell for implantable medical devices includes an elongated anode and cathode folded together to form a prismatic cell. The anode includes an anode tab which does not extend to the bottom edge of the anode, with heat-resistant tape on the opposite side of the anode, likewise not extending to the bottom edge of the anode. This provides a strip of anode material below the anode tab which acts as a current collector reducing the increase in impedance as the cell is discharged.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2004Publication date: September 8, 2005Applicant: EaglePicher Technologies, LLCInventor: Christo Brand
