According to one embodiment, a system for providing low-latency handling of events in a real time environment while utilizing non-real time components can comprise an external resource and a resource adapter communicatively coupled with the external resource. The resource adapter can be adapted to detect events of the external resource and/or request actions of the external resource. The system can also include at least one local application communicatively coupled with the resource adapter. The local application can have a local interface and the local application can interact with the resource adapter via the local interface.
