  • Patent number: 4528315
Abstract: A process for the preparation of aqueous dispersions, also emulsion (co)polymerization of vinyl halides and/or vinyl esters and, if needed, additional monomers in the absence of emulsifying agents are described. Protective colloid is added after the initiation of the polymerization to stabilize the forming dispersion. The dispersions are characterized by low viscosity, even with high solids contents, and low structural viscosity, and they are suitable a.o. especially for the preparation of redispersible powders.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 30, 1983
Date of Patent: July 9, 1985
    Assignee: Wacker-Chemie GmbH
Inventors: Herbert Eck, Manfred Hannebaum, Christof Kemenater
  • Patent number: 4189415
Abstract: The invention relates to aqueous copolymer dispersions containing high proportions of vinyl chloride units in the copolymer, together with vinyl acetate units and ethylene units, which dispersions contain only polyvinyl alcohol as protective colloid; as well as to their manufacture and to their use.

  • Patent number: 4133791
Abstract: A process for the preparation of an aqueous ethylene-containing copolymer dispersion with viscosities above 20 Pas (measured with a Brookfield viscosimeter at 10 rpm) which consists essentially of (1) polymerizing an aqueous monomer mixture of ethylene and at least one monomer copolymerizable with ethylene under conventional ethylene copolymerization conditions in the presence of from 1% to 15% by weight of polyvinyl alcohol with a degree of hydrolyzation of 70% to 100%, to a solids content of from 30% to 60% by weight, to give a copolymer dispersion, (2) evenly distributing from 1% to 8% by weight of water-soluble polyalkylene glycols having a molecular weight of between 6,000 and 100,000 selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycol and mixtures of polyethylene glycol/polypropylene glycol, in said copolymer dispersion, and (3) recovering said aqueous ethylene-containing copolymer dispersion with viscosities above 20 Pas.

  • Patent number: 4118357
Abstract: An aqueous copolymer adhesive dispersion having a long pot life and giving highly waterproof bonds, comprising an acid hardener of water-soluble acids having pKs of under 0 and an aqueous dispersion of a pre-crosslinked polyvinyl ester grafted onto polyvinyl alcohol, said polyvinyl ester being an ester of an acid of 1 to 12 carbon atoms and said pre-crosslinking caused by the presence of small amounts of poly-ethylenically-unsaturated compounds in the monomer mixture, as well as the aqueous dispersion and the method for its production.
