  • Patent number: 8871527
Abstract: The present invention provides diagnostic in vitro methods as well as kits and devices to be used in the methods of the present invention for diagnosis or prognosis of a pathologic condition characterized by the presence/absence of an endogenous hormone and/or hormone analog(s) thereof involved in diabetes or metabolic syndrome. The methods comprise a quantitative separation of at least those analytes of interest whose common presence interferes with measuring the presence/absence or concentration of one of the analytes of interest by a subsequent analytical method.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 29, 2009
Date of Patent: October 28, 2014
    Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and Company
Inventors: Mikkel Nissum, Christoph Eckerskorn, Andreas Pfuetzner, Thomas Forst

  • Patent number: 7169275
Abstract: A method for separating particles in free-flow electrophoresis FFE includes conveying a separation medium using a dosage pump into a separation chamber; releasing the separation medium via outlets; applying an electrical field in the separation medium; coupling a particle to be separated with selectively defined charge labels for generating charge-modified particles which due to their selectively modified net surface charge display a different migratory behavior in FFE than non-charge-modified particles; adding a mixture of particles to be separated to the separation medium in the separation chamber by way of sample injection points; removing the particles separated using the separation medium by way of fractionation points; and collecting the fractions with the separated particles.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 7169278
Abstract: A free-flow electrophoresis (FFE) apparatus and separation medium for separating particles therefore, includes a separation chamber with a dosage pump for conveying medium, electrodes for applying an electric field in the medium and sample injection points for adding a mixture of particles to be separated and fractionation points for removing the particles. Definable charge labels couple with the particles to form charge-modified particles which display with a different migratory behavior in FFE The apparatus includes focusing buffers between the separation medium and at least one electrode which has much higher electrical conductivity than the separation medium.

  • Publication number: 20040050698
Abstract: The invention relates to a free-flow electrophoresis apparatus and a method and a separation medium for separating particles using such an apparatus, whereby this FFE apparatus encompasses at least one separation chamber (14) through which a separation medium (8) can flow, defined by a floor, a cover and spacers to maintain these at a distance from each other. Furthermore, said FFE apparatus encompasses a dosage pump for conveying a separation medium (8) which enters the separation chamber (14) by way of medium feed lines (15,15′) and leaves said chamber by way of outlets (16), electrodes (9,10) for applying an electric field in the separation medium (8) and sample injection points (17) for adding a mixture of particles (1,1′,1″) to be separated and fractionation points (18) for removing the particles in the separation medium (8) separated by means of FFE.
