Patent number: 11972070Abstract: Mitigation techniques can be used to reduce noise generated by wireless communication circuitry (e.g., near-field communication circuitry) in an electronic device including a display, touch, and wireless communication circuitry. In some examples, a touch screen can have a backplane including a mesh of routing traces connected to an array of chiplets. In some examples, the chiplets can repeat signals to prevent the accumulation of noise induced by an NFC coil. In some examples, the ratio between vertical and horizontal resistances of routing traces can be configured to mitigate noise induced by the coil. In some examples, the routing traces of the mesh can be configured to share a common geometric centroid. In some examples, a plurality of routing traces can be routed in a twisted pair configuration. In some examples, the routing traces and chiplets can be routed to minimize traversal through regions of relatively high electromagnetic field.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2022Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: William Paul, Christoph H. Publication number: 20240137120Abstract: The invention concerns an optical detector (100) with a low-cost and efficient solution for the imaging lens in the receiver that is configured to better receive optical signals originating from wide viewing angles. The optical detector (100) comprises a ball lens (101), a photodetector (120), and a plurality of lightguides (103). The ball lens (101) comprising a first spherical surface (010) for receiving incoming light and a second spherical surface (020) for exiting incoming light. Each of the plurality of lightguides (103) has a light entry surface (104) and a light exit surface (105). The plurality of light entry surfaces (104) are facing the second spherical surface (020) of the ball lens (101) and the plurality of light exit surfaces (105) are facing the photodetector (120). The photodetector (120) and the plurality of lightguides (103) are arranged around an optical axis (001) of the ball lens (101).Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2022Publication date: April 25, 2024Inventors: HUGO JOHAN CORNELISSEN, CHRISTOPH GERARD AUGUST HOELEN, JOHAN PAUL MARIE GERARD LINNARTZ

Publication number: 20240103669Abstract: A pixelated mutual capacitance sensing configuration to detect the presence of floating water is disclosed. An integrated touch screen can be configured in a checkerboard arrangement of alternating drive pixels and sense pixels, where each drive or sense pixel can include a plurality of sub-pixels. The sense pixels can include sense sub-pixels surrounded by ground sub-pixels to reduce the baseline mutual capacitance between the drive and sense pixels. Stimulated drive pixels can capacitively couple onto the sense sub-pixels of the sense pixel, forming a baseline (no touch) mutual capacitance between the drive pixels and the sense sub-pixels. The presence of grounded objects shunts some charge to ground and reduces the mutual capacitance, while floating water provides and additional parallel mutual capacitance path that increases the mutual capacitance. Floating water can be distinguished from a grounded touch based on the direction of the change in mutual capacitance.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: William PAUL, Christoph H.
